McCarthy slams White House for ‘keeping a close eye’ on Twitter under Elon Musk: ‘That is offensive to me’

Kevin McCarthy, House Minority Leader, stated that it was “offensive” for the White House to monitor Elon Musk’s Twitter. He stressed that Republicans “will not allow government to go after people just because they have political views.”

McCarthy, R-Calif. was asked Tuesday about White House press secretary Karine Jean Pierre’s Monday comments that the White House would “keep a close watch” on Musk’s Twitter account.

McCarthy stated, “That is offensive to my mind.” McCarthy said, “That is offensive to me.” What are they going to do with Twitter? Are they going to attack the American public over whether they have an opinion about something?

McCarthy stated that McCarthy believes the First Amendment is strong and suggested that they should stop picking at Elon Musk. McCarthy also said Musk has “succeeded many places”.

Biden and the Democrats are outraising us hand over fist. And they’re doing it while telling us EXACTLY what their plan is for Biden’s 2nd term. Killing more babies. Seizing YOUR guns. Raising OUR taxes. So why aren’t you helping me stop them? I’m Ronda Kennedy. Help me win this November so we can help Trump reverse Biden’s damage to this country!

He said: “One thing that I would like to say when we speak about accountability is that we won’t allow government to go after people just because they have political views.”

McCarthy’s remarks come after Karine Jean-Pierre, White House press secretary, addressed Monday via Twitter under Musk.

Jean-Pierre stated, “This is something we’re definitely keeping an eye on.” “We have always made it clear that it is the responsibility of social media platforms to prevent misinformation and hate from spreading. We are very clear about this. We’re all watching this closely.”

She added, “We are all monitoring what is currently happening.” We can see the changes in Twitter with our own eyes, and we are also monitoring what you guys are reporting.

She continued, “Again we’re all keeping an eye on it,” “We all monitor what’s happening at the moment.”

Musk reinstated several Twitter accounts previously suspended by President Trump since he became CEO.

However, Twitter has seen advertisers pull content off the social media platform under Musk’s leadership and Apple has threatened to remove the app form its app store if it violates the company’s content moderators practices.

Jean-Pierre stated Monday that social media companies have a responsibility not to allow their platforms to be used to incite violence. Jean-Pierre said Monday that he will continue to do so and that he and his team will continue to monitor the situation.

Musk tweeted Monday in response to the question: “Why is so many media people against free speech?” This is ridiculous.
