Nikki Haley To Suspend Campaign After Crushing Super Tuesday Losses

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, the last rival of former President Donald Trump for the GOP’s nomination in 2024, is expected to suspend her campaign on Wednesday after losing to a majority Super Tuesday states.

Haley, who has been in the race over a full year and only won two primaries in Washington, D.C., Vermont, and Washington, D.C., is expected to announce her retirement during a speech at Charleston, South Carolina, multiple outlets report. Trump will be the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party in November, following Haley’s announcement.

Haley is also unlikely to endorse Trump immediately, according sources familiar with the situation.

Former governor, who was a candidate in Nevada’s primary but did not receive delegates, came in behind “None of These Candidates”, which is an option that does not count delegates. Trump also won the Michigan caucus and primary, and the contests in Idaho, Missouri and Missouri. The Republican lost all of these contests as well as those in Idaho and Missouri.

Trump won the North Dakota caucus by a margin of 84.6% over 14.2% on Monday. He also won nearly all the Super Tuesday contests the next day. Former governor of Vermont, former Governor Haley won Vermont’s blue state 49.9% to 49%.

The former governor insisted repeatedly on remaining in the race despite her lackluster poll numbers and her lack of victories to offer Republican primary voters a choice other than Trump.

RealClearPolitics’ (RCP’s) average of polls taken between February 13 and 28 for a national Republican primary in 2024 shows that Trump leads Haley by 63 percentage points.

Haley focused much of her campaign on foreign and economic policy. She often cited her record as South Carolina Governor and U.N. Ambassador under the Trump Administration. Her candidacy was a draw for many liberal voters as well as Democratic donors who were looking for an alternative to Trump and Biden.

After Florida Gov., the Republican is the last major GOP presidential contender to withdraw from the race. Ron DeSantis, conservative entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and former Vice President Mike Pence. Former Texas Rep. Will Hurd.

Since then, many of the 2024 hopefuls, with the exception of Christie, Pence and Hurd, have thrown their support to Trump. Hurd and Hutchinson supported Haley as president.

In the RCP’s average, Trump currently leads Biden by 2.3 points for a possible rematch in 2024.

Haley’s Campaign did not respond immediately to the Daily Caller News Foundation when it requested comment.
