House Republicans release long-awaited ObamaCare replacement bill

March 7, 2017

House Republicans on Monday evening released the text of their long-awaited ObamaCare replacement bill, proposing to eliminate the various taxes and penalties tied to the original legislation while still preserving certain patient protections.

Aiming to deliver on their signature campaign promise after several election cycles trying to reclaim control of Washington, majority Republicans unveiled what they call the American Health Care Act. The sweeping legislation would repeal ObamaCare’s taxes along with the so-called individual and employer mandates – which imposed fines for not buying and offering insurance, respectively.

It also would repeal the Affordable Care Act’s subsidies, replacing them with tax credits for consumers.

Why is this the “long awaited” Obamacare repeal bill? If they are saying the people have wanted this for a long time, they are right. If they are saying it took too long to bring forward, what a crock. The original act was talked about all during the 2008 Campaign (anointment tour?) of Obama, who entered office in Jan 2009. The act finally went to Congress in Sep 2009, 9 months after taking office. Now they are yelling that it took the Republicans and Trump 2 months to put forth the repeal. Hypocrisy much?

It says in our local paper that under this deal those with ongoing medical conditions can be charged more or be turned down by insurance. How does that hold the line for those with ongoing medical conditions or give them the legal authority to not have insurance refuse to insure them. You know the insurance will turn down the applicant as they are turned from Obamacare to the new thing. I thought Trump was going to be involved in the getting rid of Obamacare, why is he not at all involved, just Congress who doesn’t get that we voted for Trump to kill Obamacare. If the federal gov’t is going to be the insurance company, than cover everybody in one way or another. Medicaid for those who can’t afford it. My sister under Medicaid had better insurance than I did with a top policy through my employer. A middle policy for those not insured where they work but are working and can pay something according to their wages. Some kind of control so insurance for ongoing medical conditions can’t be turned down by insurance companies through your employer which is what I had but as I got older, they could kick me out due to my open heart surgery and follow up apts, etc. After my surgery I got back to work but needed follow up to keep me healthy and to nip any problems. Eventually I was kicked out of my policy and now I have a crappy policy with needed tests being turned down. I myself have to figure out if my body is failing or not instead of finding out for sure if my heart is failing and so do something about it. If the gov’t isn’t going to cover everybody in an honest way and economical way than get out of the insurance business and encourage private insurance companies to insure people especially with on going medical conditions with the few laws necessary to encourage health coverage for all. And just to be clear, illegals should not be on any insurance plan in this country or getting any taxpayer money that belongs to citizens not non citizens. Why are we citizens supporting people who belong to another gov’t then we citizens. We citizens can’t even support ourselves thanks to these illegals draining our paychecks and I resent my gov’t forcing me to support citizens of another country, my paycheck is getting harder and harder to take care of me. Maybe our generous gov’t could send the bills for educating and providing welfare and medical help to the gov’ts these illegals belong to. Or, and, stop killing our 70 million babies who would have been future citizens who could have paid enough taxes to take care of our citizens. Now, that’s an ideal our gov’t politicians would never consider because it is so right and easy to solve our enough young people to support the old. Gees.

First broken promise. Trump promised that Obamacare would be scrapped and completely replaced. This just looks like a doctored up Obamacare. If they really wanted to repeal Obamacare and bring in something new, they had since November to work on it. They obviously didn’t. What happened to the alternative to Obamacare the Republicans claimed to have back in 2009? This looks like it has a RINO’s touch.

Looks like this “American Health Care Act” is what the ACA should have been to successfully put health insurance under federal control. Looks like the real goal has not changed. If the original goal was to actually provide insurance for those without, as originally promoted, then simply expand Medicaid. Apparently that was not the real goal.

  • Webb says:

BREAKING NEWS → We just introduced our bill to repeal and replace Obamacare. The American Health Care Act is a plan to drive down costs, encourage competition, and give every American access to quality, affordable health insurance. It protects young adults, patients with pre-existing conditions, and provides a stable transition so that no one has the rug pulled out from under them. From Paul Ryan

  • justinwachin says:

They should repeal the Affordable Care Act in its entirety including all the bureaucracies created to micromanage our health care system. The replacement portion of their bill should get the government out of health care except for those unable to get affordable coverage due to pre-existing health conditions. Affordable could be defined as a percentage of the person’s income.

Health care will work best when free enterprise is able to run it in a competitive fashion.

No matter how much lipstick you put on the pig, Obamacare, it is still a pig. We were promised that they would repeal EVERY WORD of Obamacare not replace it or fix it. We want the Government OUT of our healthcare. We want our healthcare back to pre-Obamacare.
No matter how many amendments they put on this bill is is still a Obamacare like. Just adding amendments to this is like putting used tires on a car that has been totaled and the rest of the car can not be repaired.
If they don’t repeal every word of Obamacare the GOP will lose the Senate in the 2018 election.

  • DrBillLemoine says:

Not acceptable–the Trumpcare plan!!! Tax credits instead of premium subsidies benefits only the rich, folks who don’t ordinarily need this healthcare coverage. And it goes downhill from there. I don’t ordinarily agree with Sen. Paul but this plan needs rejection with no repeal of Obamacare. The paucity of healthcare ideas by Republicans is now apparent. Romneycare from MA expanded into Obamacare for the nation is still the best chance to slow healthcare increases, but requires federal subsidies. Failure to expand Medicaid means the same as no healthcare plan for millions; and, I’m sure Republican governors are dying when discovering their budget filler from federal funds is shrinking, or at least not expanding. And that begs the question, why are Ryan Republicans going to vote on this travesty replacement plan before it’s scored by the budget committee? Shouldn’t we know the finances, which Republicans say they are so focused on before seeing any vote. It’s a scam again by clue-less leadership in the House. At least the replacement will be defeated in the Senate with 4 thoughtful Republicans voting against repeal and this replacement.

      1. Herschel Weintraub says:

Quite accurate. The replacement bill is for the 1% only. Part of the bill should be the elimination of health care for congress. Require them to buy it with no subsidies. They are wealthy. So they can afford it. Most of America cannot.

UH no. I pay 110 for medicare and 151 for a supplement. One of the first steps in a dictatorship is to establish a government controlled health care system. We need the government to stay out. Before you say I already pay for a government plan, if you get a regular paycheck you will see a deduction for medicare. I have been paying in all my life.

        1. Bob says:

” One of the first steps in a dictatorship is to establish a government controlled health care system. ” What the heck do you think Obamacare is?

You are getting by cheap, my parents each paid $3,000.00 a year for supplement and that was without drug .They have been gone for 7 years . There are Idiots that call Medicare a entitlement when you paid into it and paying monthly while drawing .

  • A natural born American says:

Is this plan also more than 20,000 pages long? Do single men and elderly couples still have to carry birth control coverage? Is it still so expensive that people have to get second jobs just to pay for their health insurance? Or have the republicans actually smartened up and made it affordable for everyone who OPTS to carry the coverage providing it turns out to be far better than what the private sector can provide for THEIR families particular needs?

    1. Tiger says:

Look for yourself and read the outline of what is in it and then remember it goes to committee today for others to talk it over, add and delete or whatever.

  • leaningtotheleft says:

And if your little pussies hadn’t started with their childish bullshit of not getting involved because they didn’t believe healthcare was a problem then and will be until this country passes a single payer system where everyone in the country is insured including congress, the president and you and me.

          America is a broke nation…
$20 trillion in debt, at some point, we will be a Bankrupt nation!

          1. Herschel Weintraub says:

The debt is more accurately measured as a percentage of the GNP. It is at it’s lowest point since Clinton, thanks to Obama’s economic policies that have grown the economy and created millions of jobs. Get over your hate and work to help your fellow Americans.

          2. Webb says:

$20 Trillion dollars of national debt…is surely a magical Number!

          3. Olaf Thunderfoot says:

What millions of jobs? What about the people who lost their jobs due to obama and clinton’s “affirmative action” bubble busting in 2008? What about the people who ran out of unemployment and fell off the books? Keep on drinkin that good ole leftist koolaid and spreading lies.

    2. Webb says:

Many Americans did not wish to be Fined for not buying a product forced by Government…
Also we are supporting The Subsidies by our tax dollar…

      1. leaningtotheleft says:

Haven’t you been doing that for years with auto insurance?

        1. Webb says:

Is anyone forced to buy an auto…?

          1. Herschel Weintraub says:

Insurance can only work when there is a large pool of ‘members.’ Do you think that insurance coverage is a gift from heaven? That the money magically appears when needed? Get real. If you have a car, you are forced to buy insurance (or put up a very large bond). If you have a life, you need to buy health insurance. Otherwise don’t expect medical care at the ER when your sick, injured, or dying.

          2. leaningtotheleft says:

Do you ever wander GW how it was to be paid for? Taking back some of Ronnie Raygun and GWbushes tax breaks to the wealthy

          3. Webb says:

Personally I have always had my own Family Healthcare through some insurance company…
I have never depended on others or government for medical care…
No one should be forced to carry healthcare insurance…Never!
            Personal Responsibility helps…

          4. Herschel Weintraub says:

However you are paying for the ER costs of those without insurance in higher health care costs. It’s been shown to actually be less expensive to help everyone get insurance than pay the high cost of the ER when preventative care would eliminate most of that.

You can afford coverage. How about those that are poor and those unable to work? Just let them die?

      2. Herschel Weintraub says:

You are still paying for the uninsured. ER visits cost many times what preventative care and needed hospitalization cost. You pay for it every day in your medical costs. Learn something for once, rather than listening to the lies of the right and the 1%

        1. Webb says:

          Learn This…Personal Responsibility!!

          1. Herschel Weintraub says:

What does personal responsibility have to do with it if you cannot afford coverage? Does Congress have any personal responsibility? They get the best health care on us. And force the poor and middle class to suffer

          2. Retired says:

But they can afford the latest model phone and stand in line for welfare.

          3. Herschel Weintraub says:
