‘Out-of-control judge’: Trump administration goes to war with federal courts

Justice Department Seeks Removal of Anti-Trump Judges
The Justice Department has recently intensified its efforts to remove two federal judges, James Boasberg and Beryl Howell, from their positions due to perceived hostility towards President Trump and his policies. Both judges, appointed during Obama’s presidency, have been involved in key rulings against Trump’s administration.
Accusations of Bias and Hostility
Justice Department attorneys argue that Judges Boasberg and Howell have demonstrated an unacceptable bias in cases affecting the Trump administration. Specifically, Boasberg’s actions to halt deportations and Howell’s decisions against Trump’s directives have been cited as examples of their antagonism.
Deputy Associate Attorney General Richard Lawson emphasized the need for impartiality in the judiciary, stating, “Defendants deserve a court proceeding free from concerns about impartiality.” This statement was part of a formal request for Judge Howell to recuse herself from a case involving a Democrat-connected law firm accused of spreading misinformation about Trump during the 2016 election.
Judicial Retaliation and Defense
In response to the accusations, Judge Boasberg criticized the conduct of Trump’s lawyers as “intemperate and disrespectful,” and warned of consequences for defying his orders regarding deportation flights. Meanwhile, Judge Howell has defended her rulings, expressing concern over the implications of Trump’s executive orders.
Broader Implications and Reactions

The ongoing conflict between the Trump administration and these judges has broader implications, reflecting a significant challenge to the president’s agenda from the judiciary. Attorney General Pam Bondi called Judge Boasberg “out-of-control” on a Fox News program, highlighting the administration’s frustration with judicial interference.
Liberal groups have applauded the judges’ actions, viewing them as a necessary check on Trump’s power, whereas conservative voices see these rulings as a direct threat to the rule of law and presidential authority.
Continued Legal Battles
The legal confrontations with Judges Boasberg and Howell are part of a larger pattern of legal challenges faced by Trump, with over 150 cases brought against his actions in just the early months of his second term. The outcomes of these cases have been mixed, with several significant losses for the administration.
In particular, the cases involving immigration and executive power have drawn significant attention, with conservatives arguing that Judge Boasberg’s actions have created a “constitutional crisis.” This includes his order to ground deportation flights, which the Trump administration has defied, leading to a heated exchange in court.
Trump’s Personal Stake and Statements
President Trump has taken these judicial challenges personally, asserting that the judges are defying the will of the American people who elected him based on his policy agenda. He has been vocal on social media, criticizing Judge Boasberg for his perceived leniency towards criminals, while being harsh on Capitol riot defendants.
As the battle between the executive branch and the judiciary continues, the tension underscores the deep political divisions within the United States, with the outcome of these legal battles likely to have lasting impacts on the country’s governance and legal landscape.

Boasberg has a major conflict of interest. He was on The FISA Court when they issued a warrant to spy of Trump and Carter Page. FBI’s Kevin Clinesmith was convicted of supplying false information to obtain said warrant. Boasberg personally sentenced Clinesmith to ‘probation’.
