Sen. Sanders calls for wealth tax at AFL-CIO convention

Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-described socialist, called for a progressive estate tax on multi-millionaires and billionaires during a speech on Saturday.

“A nation will not survive morally or economically when so few have so much while so many have so little,” Mr. Sanders said at the Vermont AFL-CIO annual convention.

“We need a tax system which asks the billionaire class to pay its fair share of taxes and which reduces the obscene degree of wealth inequality in America,” said Mr. Sanders, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats.

According to Mr. Sanders, taxing the top .25 percent of wealthiest Americans is the fairest way to reduce wealth inequality, lower the $17 trillion national debt and pay for investments in infrastructure, education and other neglected national priorities.

It is called TERM LIMITS people and we should force all senators and congress members to 2 terms and your done. No more carrier polititions to line their pockets while ignoring what the people who elected them to do. The GRAVY TRAIN must be stopped and soon before they destroy our once GREAT NATION.

Can we the people send this anti-American back to the backwater Vermont town he came from ? At one time in America being a communist wasn’t tolerated. Time to go back to American values

  • Art Hock says:

Another empty-headed socialist who wants to steal from all the working people and give more to the lazy lifetime welfare leaches. Time for this jerk to retire to the rubber room. I guess he had a bunch of listeners at the AFL-CIO convention as those guys are the same as he is as they stopped long ago caring about their members only their own pockets.

I never got a job from a poor person.

    1. hpinnc says:

Me neither, mudguy1. I never heard so much animosity towards the rich until the liberal/marxists/democrats got control of the senate. I work for a young man who inherited a fortune from his parents, who worked 14 to 16 hrs. daily to build this business. Now, he employs between 300 to 400 people. If the government can figure it out they will take most of his fortune & give it to those who wouldn’t work in a pie factory. I remember a time when there were good jobs to be had in this country, & if someone got on social assistance, they got off of it as soon as they could. We were independent back then, we wanted to do for ourselves & not be dependent on government, but now we have raised a generation of people who make sponging off the government a constitutional right. It is time to make some new rules, like stop giving SS to hyper kids, stop paying young, poor women to have 8 to 14 kids they cannot afford & the state has to support them with a check for each child. There are just too many in this country with their hands out.

The State of Vermont should be ashamed for sending this SOB to Congress.

    1. hpinnc says:

They’re just as stupid as he is, probably a bunch of liberal/socialists makes up the biggest percentage of voters in that district. It is his kind of thinking that is one reason the country is in the mess it is in, just spend, spend, spend. You can never grow government too big for the democrats. They never saw a tax they didn’t like, & it is not to spend on infrastructure as he pretends, it would be used to finance more give-away programs for people who wouldn’t work in a pie factory, they don’t want a job, they want the government to keep them up. I am sick of it. I refer you to LBJ back in 1968, oh he was going to “declare war on poverty”. He created the “Great Society”, remember, he was going to “wipe out poverty.” Has it been wiped out,? No. The only way the democrats know to fix something, is throw tons of money at it. There was never all this talk about wiping out the rich class, until Obama came along, he has tried to put the rich against the poor, blacks against the whites, even democrats against republicans. He is doing more to divide the country than any President we have ever had. This yea-hoot from Vermont is just typical of the liberal/socialist/marxist of the people who make up the democrat party.

it wasn’t like that before all the flatlanders from NY and MA moved in.

      2. papershuffler says:

Can’t we just give Vermont to Canada? Sanders included.

        1. I Seigel says:

At the same time, let’s give Texas back to Mexico. Enough with their pretentious whining already

          1. Harry Hingst says:

We Texans will gladly get out of the USSA. But, we will not go to Mexico. We will just become an independent nation like we were before mistakenly joining the USSA.

          2. I Seigel says:

Yes please. The sooner the better. But I think Mexico is a better option. Then you’ll only have to worry about your northern border.

          3. Harry Hingst says:

Well, since you want to get rid of us, why don’t you let us worry about how we do that. We think all you Liberals should move to Russia where you will be with your own Communist kind.

          4. I Seigel says:

Ok, no problem. You all decide.

It remains a mystery to me why the words “liberal” “Democrat” and “Communist” all run together out of your mouths.

          5. Harry Hingst says:

It is because you all act exactly the same. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck, it must be a duck.

          6. I Seigel says:

Oh, I get it. It’s exactly like saying “bigoted”, “hypocrite”, “Fascist” and “Conservative” together, only just the opposite. Thanks for explaining.

          7. Harry Hingst says:

Well, since you cannot think of anything intelligent to say and resort to insults, I will sign off and let you rant away with your illiterate gibberish.

  • TexRancher says:

I’ll bet that he wants politicians exempted from this tax! With politcians like this socialist, we cease to have a free enterprise system! Of course he thinks it’s not our money! Just where is the line that separates those “wealthy” from the rest of us?

    1. James Maxwell says:

Not only politicians but all of his supporters also I bet. I would also
suspect that he would want to exclude the Unions and those who
contribute to his personal wealth. Congress has become a
corrupt entity that writes laws to benefit them and their cronies.
They get way with insider trading that would put the majority of Americans in jails. They play fast and loose with the legal system
to become millionaires in ways that would have the rest of our
nation arrested, they drive drunk in public and when pulled over
the use their elected office to get excused and escorted to
congress to conduct official business. They are immune to
our laws and laugh at them on a regular basis. There are
some good people in politics but the do not last long as they
are corrupted by the “Good ol’ boy system”.
