Sessions resists GOP pressure on Clinton probe

November 15, 2017

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday resisted calls from Republicans that he appoint a second special counsel to investigate a slate of conservative allegations related to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

In a marathon appearance before the House Judiciary Committee, the pressure the former Alabama senator faces from his own party and the White House was at the forefront even as he endured tough questions from Democrats.

The most memorable exchange of the day came when Sessions told a testy Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), a leading voice among House conservatives, that it would take “a factual basis that meets the standard of a special counsel” for the Justice Department to appoint a special prosecutor.

“We will use the proper standards and that’s the only thing I can tell you, Mr. Jordan,” Sessions said. “You can have your idea, but sometimes we have to study what the facts are and to evaluate whether it meets the standards it requires.”

When you life depends on you not saying much about a clinton, what else can be said. It is the same as making a decision (comey) long before the investigation is completed.

You got it. And not just his life, but MANY others. Also, he can’t talk about an investigation that is ongoing – unlike the former administration. I don’t believe for a minute that he’s sitting in a corner doing nothing. What about the sealed indictments that are being handed over recently? I also read that a take-down of human traffickers happened in Brentwood, Tenn. last week. If this is going to be an effective investigation, it will have to be done in secret. I hope and pray that we will be hearing big news soon (like within the next months). By not commenting on what the Justice Department is doing, HE IS DOING HIS JOB. Also, he is not a spineless man, as he stood up to his interrogators with a will. It would be totally out of character for him to do nothing. Trump is crazy like a fox – I wouldn’t put it past him to mislead the dems by acting displeased with Sessions and the “Russian collusion” investigation, which in reality is a take-down of the swamp. God helped us win the election – I don’t believe He will close His ears to us now.

    Special prosecutors be damned.
Hopefully Sessions has been ‘draining the swamp’ in the DOJ, and identifying ‘honest’ personnel that can, and will, conduct appropriate prosecutions. Special prosecutors operate outside of the control of the Attorney General. Let the constitutional Attorney General perform the role that the Constitution calls for. For starters, bring back those DOJ staff that resigned because of Holder.

Sessions is a mild mannered steady methodical person. When he arrives at the need for a special council in the Clinton pay for play State Department, conviction will be a slam dunk.
As of now there are about two dozen classified information leak investigations on the front burner that will put people behind bars. Hillary and her goons are a long way from being in the clear.

Session is a smart man and doesn’t get his facts from Fox News. He has looked at the real facts and knows there is no law broken here. Would anyone believe he is holding back from the chance to nail Clinton. It’s nice to see he is not wasting our tax dollars to chase a purely political investigation that will go no where. One thing you can bet on. if there ever is something that is based on facts to go after the Clinton’s he will be more then happy to lead the chase.

    1. chw2000 says:

No surprise here from Bobnstuff. Now he’s the greatest legal mind and has seen all the evidence concerning Clinton and made the decission that no laws have been broken. Well, Bob, you better “guess” again because you are not privy to all the details and only the Clintons know the extreme of their lawlessness. YOu?, you’re just a liberal ass hole that wants to defend these bastards! Guess that would make you one too. YOu’re an ass hole!

      1. bobnstuff says:

I have look at the facts as have a number of others and they don’t hold up.
Sorry but Trump needs to find some other story to hide behind.

  • Original Anna says:

I am wondering about Sessions too. Since when are criminal acts considered to be political harassment by the opposing party. What else is the DOJ supposed to be for if not to bring out criminal acts and prosecution of any member of any party. I don’t get where Sessions is making criminal prosecutions political harassment. If that is so than no politician will ever be brought up or prosecuted for criminal activities. And what has Sessions been doing as head of the DOJ, I have not seen anything that he has been responsible for doing in getting President Trumps agenda moving. President Trump needs to get rid of every person that served in the Obama administration like Rosenstein and the one under him. Why is President Trump keeping these do nothings for the President like they sure did everything for Obama.

    1. Goldie says:

Investigations take time – be patient. There is more going on here than meets the eye. Were not dealing with small-fry here; this is international mafia – they run drugs, foment violence, traffic humans, make and break governments, and plan world wars. Prayer is what we can do, and also not stone people who seem to be acting very much out of their usual character.

  • El says:

I an beginning to think Sessions has been bought out by Sorros or other anti American interests. Maybe it is time for Trump to really clean the swamp by mass firings on the Obama holders or otherwise he will suffer from fear to make a decision. Sessions is truly not in the Trump camp and keeping him on is detrimental to the Republican Party.
