Trump, Biden dominate Super Tuesday contests as they march toward rematch
U.S. president Joe Biden, and former president Donald Trump won statewide nomination contests in all 50 states on Tuesday. This set up a historic matchup in the November general election despite both candidates’ low approval ratings.
Trump defeated former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, his last remaining rival. Ambassador Nikki Haley, his last remaining rival.
Haley’s sole win came in Vermont.
Trump’s dominant performance on “Super Tuesday”, where more than a third of Republican delegates was up for grabs means that he is all but certain to win his third consecutive nomination as president despite a litany criminal charges.

As the results became apparent, Trump and Biden focused their attention on each other. Trump criticized Biden for his immigration policies in a victory address at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida estate. He called him “the worst president” of all time.
He said that migrant criminals were a major problem in our cities, despite the fact that crime statistics do not back up this claim.
Biden has again portrayed Trump as a danger to the American democracy.
He said that the results of the election left the American people facing a choice. “Will we continue to move forward, or will we let Donald Trump drag us backwards to the chaos, division and darkness which defined his tenure in office?”
Biden won the Democratic races, despite a surprising number of votes cast in protest against his support for Israel’s war on Hamas.
Edison Research reports that the “uncommitted vote” in Minnesota was 19% after nearly 90% of votes were counted. This is higher than the 13% in Michigan for a similar attempt last week.
Biden won Minnesota, 14 other states and a mail-in ballot in Iowa which ended on Tuesday.
According to the American Samoa Democratic Party, Biden did lose one election, that of the small U.S. Territory of American Samoa. There, entrepreneur Jason Palmer received 51 votes, compared to Biden’s forty.
Few Americans want to see Trump and Biden rematch. Both Biden and Trump are rated low by voters in opinion polls.
Edison exit polls conducted in California, North Carolina, and Virginia revealed that immigration and the economy were top concerns among Republican voters.
Majorities of Republican voters in these states supported deporting illegal migrants. Trump, who often denigrates migrants and promises to mount the largest deportation campaign in U.S. History if elected, has frequently denigrated migrants.
Katherine Meredith – a 65 year old homemaker – voted for Trump at California’s Huntington Beach.
She said, “The border is an absolute catastrophe.”
The results of Tuesday will increase the pressure for Haley to withdraw from the race. Haley did not appear in public on Tuesday and her campaign does not have any events scheduled for the future.
Her spokesperson stated that the results showed that “a large bloc of Republican primary voters are still expressing deep concern about Donald Trump.”
Both TRUMP and BIDEN show weaknesses
The voters also cast ballots for the races on lower-tickets.
Adam Schiff, the Democratic U.S. representative who was the chief prosecutor at Trump’s first trial for impeachment, has advanced to the General Election in California to replace the late Democratic U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein. Steve Garvey is his opponent, an ex-baseball player who won the Republican primary ahead of Democratic U.S. Rep. Katie Porter.
Schiff’s campaign adopted an unusual strategy in California, where the top two candidates are chosen regardless of their party. He ran ads to promote Garvey to Republican voters. Schiff figured that Garvey was a less formidable opponent than Porter in the Democratic state.
Mark Robinson, a Trump-endorsed lieutenant governor who won the Republican nomination to be governor in North Carolina. Robinson, the first Black executive in North Carolina, has been criticized for his harsh remarks about women, Muslims, and LGBTQ people.
In what is sure to be one of most heatedly contested races for governor in the United States, he will compete against Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein.
Taylor Swift, the pop megastar, encouraged her Instagram followers to vote. She did not endorse any candidates. Biden’s campaign hopes Swift will end up supporting his candidacy as she did for 2020.
Haley’s challenge highlighted some of Trump’s possible vulnerabilities in the general election. She reached 40% in certain state contests. Her performance was particularly strong among independent, educated and suburban voters, who could be crucial in battleground states this November.
In North Carolina, about a third of voters believe that Trump is not fit to be president if he were convicted of a criminal offense. However, in Virginia, more than half of the voters think he’s fit for office even if he is convicted.
Trump’s first criminal trial is set to start on March 25, in New York. He is accused of falsifying records to hide hush-money payments made to a pornstar during his 2016 campaign for president.
Trump also faces federal charges and Georgia state charges of election interference. However, it is not clear if either case will be tried before the November 5th election. Trump also faces federal charges of retaining classified information after leaving office.
Trump has denied all four criminal charges.
Biden has his own flaws, which include widespread concerns about his age. He is the oldest U.S. President in history.
