Trump Nominates Pam Bondi for Attorney General After Matt Gaetz Withdrawal

Pam Bondi was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be Attorney General after former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-FL, resigned due to a sexual misconduct investigation.

Trump announced Bondi’s selection on social media Thursday.

Trump stated that the Department of Justice had been used as a weapon against him and other Republicans for too long. “Not anymore,” he said. “Pam’s DOJ will be refocused on its original purpose, which is to fight Crime and Make America Safe Again.”

According to the Associated Press (AP), Bondi has positioned her as a strong supporter of the agenda of the President-elect and harshly criticized criminal cases brought against him during his campaign.

Breitbart reported Thursday that Gaetz had announced his resignation, believing his previous ethics probe was a distraction from Trump’s agenda.

Gaetz wrote in a post on X that he had “excellent meetings” with Senators yesterday. “I really appreciate the thoughtful feedback they gave me – as well as all of your incredible support.”

“While there was a lot of momentum, it was clear that my confirmation unfairly became a distraction from the important work of the Trump/Vance Transition. “There is no need to prolong a protracted Washington scuffle. I will withdraw my name as a candidate for Attorney General,” he said.

Trump thanked Gaetz and wished him a happy future.
