Kevin B. Chavous, a key challenger for the Ward 7Â D.C. CouncilÂ seat in next yearâ€™s elections, was arrested early Friday on accusations he offered money to an undercover officer â€œfor sexual favors,â€ theÂ Metropolitan Police DepartmentÂ said.
Mr. Chavous, 27, could not immediately be reached for comment on the arrest, which was first reported byÂ The Washington Post. The son of former council member Kevin P. Chavous, he had been raising money and support for his bid to unseat Yvette M. Alexander as the Ward 7 representative on theÂ council.
He has raised nearly $29,000 for his campaign and spent more than $18,000, leaving about $10,000 on hand, according to his Dec. 10 filing with the D.C. Office of Campaign Finance.
