WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Christine O’Donnell is preparing to formally launch her Republican primary campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Ms. O’Donnell, a conservative activist who lost the 2008 Senate race to now-Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., plans to announce officially that she will run for the seat at a news conference on Wednesday.

Ms. O’Donnell will face Rep. Mike Castle in the Republican primary race. New Castle County Executive Chris Coons and Bob Franz are Democrats vying for the seat.

Sen. Ted Kaufman, who was appointed to the seat when Mr. Biden became vice president, said he will not seek election.
