Little has changed in Pennsylvania’s race for governor, with Republican State Attorney General Tom Corbett earning 50% support this month against Democrat Dan Onorato.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Onorato,Â the chief executive of Allegheny County,Â picking up 39% of the vote. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and eight percent (8%) are undecided.
In May, just after both candidates won their party primaries, Corbett was ahead 49% to 36%.Â In surveys since February, the Republican’s support has ranged from 45% to 52%, while the Democrat’s in the same period has grown from 26% to 39%.
Corbett holds a 12-point lead among men and is ahead by 10 points among women.
Eighty-one percent (81%) of the state’s Republicans support Corbett, while Onorato gets 67% of the vote among members of his party. Among voters in Pennsylvania not affiliated with either major political party, Corbett leads 44% to 36%.
Republican Pat Toomey continues to hold a small lead over Democratic Congressman Joe Sestak in Pennsylvaniaâ€™s U.S. Senate race.
This statewide telephone survey of 750 Likely Voters in Pennsylvania was conducted on July 28, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/-4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
The two men are running to replace Democratic Governor Ed Rendell, who is term-limited. Forty-two percent (42%) of the stateâ€™s voters approve of the job Rendell is doing, while 59% disapprove.
Corbett is viewed Very Favorably by 22% of Pennsylvania voters and Very Unfavorably by 13%.
Onoratoâ€™s ratings are 13% Very Favorable and 13% Very Unfavorable.
At this point in a campaign, Rasmussen Reports considers the number of people with a strong opinion more significant than the total favorable/unfavorable numbers.
Sixty-one percent (61%) of Pennsylvania voters view Corbett as conservative. Eighteen percent (18%) regard him as a moderate.
