Syrian president orders forming national dialogue body

June 2, 2011

DAMASCUS, June 1 (Xinhua) — Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Wednesday issued a presidential decree, ordering the establishment of a body, which would serve as the foundation of the national dialogue, Syria’s SANA news agency reported.

The national dialogue would “create suitable climate for all national parties to express their opinions and present suggestions and ideas about the future of the social, economical and political life in Syria,” SANA quoted al-Assad as saying.

He added the dialogue has become “possible and capable to ensure better results following the issuance of a number of decisions and decrees that would improve national unity.”

SANA said the body will “hold intensive and periodical” meetings according to a well studied work plan.
