Campus Carry Instituted In Georgia, Kansas And Texas

October 7, 2017

As sure as day follows night, when it comes to the liberalization of Right-to-Carry laws, the initial anti-gun hysteria recedes and is eventually replaced by most people wondering what all of the fuss was about. The latest iteration of this predictable pattern is now playing out on college campuses in Georgia, Kansas, and Texas in relation to Campus Carry. Despite the new rules having been met with concerns about classroom debates devolving into gunfights and body-armor-clad instructors, reports on the ground reveal that the implementation of Campus Carry has been decidedly mundane.

Texas’s Campus Carry law went into effect on August 1, 2016. The University of Texas at Austin was a hotbed of opposition to the law, but in July the Austin American Statesman reported that the new policy has posed “no problems so far at UT-Austin.” Recalling the gun control fanaticism at UT, the article elaborated, “Opponents of Senate Bill 11 feared there would be a rise in gun-related violence at the campus. But as the one-year anniversary approaches, those concerns have been unfounded.”

In the first year, the only police-involved incident at UT related to the new law occurred when an individual alerted law enforcement to someone carrying in a university library. The “armed” person turned out to be a graduate student posing for a picture to appear in a New York Times article.

I’m not sure I would feel very safe on campus with students carrying. Having been a college student myself I know that a a group these kids can be pretty stupid and take risks that most adults wouldn’t. I remember the drinking and partying. I’m not sure I would have wanted loaded guns at some of those parties. I’m very glad they haven’t had any real problems and I hope the reason isn’t that they have been lucky. My question is are college campuses so dangerous these days that people need guns to protect themselves? Are those guns making college safer or more dangerous? College students have a above average suicide rate and does having hand guns around help or hurt? These are all reasonable questions.

I’m sure all your “reasonable questions” where addressed BEFORE the decision was enacted. Things are different today than they where when you where a college student. I’m sure those students are today not only smarter but also more mature than you. You see Bob, you judge everyone by the “standards” you create and not facts. You’re an ass hole!

Ever been to WVU on a football night? They burn furniture in the streets. At Point Park University it’s not uncommon for students to wear bathrobes and slippers to class. Don’t even ask about Penn State. When was the last time you were on a college campus?

        1. Joan C Maxwell says:

Maybe that’s why those states don’t have campus carry. Where I went to college in Oregon and Washington, nothing like that took place both when I was 18 and 50. Not everyone is that adolescent.

Again, no Morals, and most of that starts at HOME!

          1. bobnstuff says:

Yes and we know just how moral the people in West Virginia are. Just so you know this kind of behavior isn’t new. My dad was class of 38 from Pitt and the students would basically riot after every game back then.

      2. bobnstuff says:
College students have high suicide rate. Half of all suicide involve fire arms.

        1. Rodney Steward says:

Just a way to rid the sick, if they’re that sick we don’t need them!

          1. bobnstuff says:

You are just so feeling for others. I guess you have never gotten depressed. It only that’s one moment of bad judgment to have a tragedy. Where firearms are present the suicide rate goes up about 4 times.

          2. Rodney Steward says:

Do you know the people that kill themselves the most, Queers! Since Obama was President was President till now when the country bought guns like crazy because they didn’t trust Obama, our crime rate has dropped by 41% nation wide, while Chicago with the toughest laws have increased! 600 deaths this year, and last weekend 32 were shot and 4 of them died! Looking forward to see what it is this weekend, but it’s thug control at it’s best!! 🙂

          3. bobnstuff says:

I love it when you make up facts. Also the crime rate was dropping before Obama took office and the number of gun owners was dropping for years even while he was in office. Only about 32% of homes have guns in them today down from over 50% a number of years ago. Less people with guns makes the country safer. Do you never read the news, Chicago repealed their tough gun laws in Sept 2013 and you are right more people are getting shot since then but Chicago isn’t the highest city per capita when it comes to gun deaths, in fact they aren’t even in the top ten.

          4. Rodney Steward says:

WOW bobby, you were doing good for a while, but you’re WAY off on this subject, he$$, that’s all that’s been on is guns and facts, you still watching the MSNBC and the CNN fake liars! More people own guns now more than ever, FACT!!

          5. Rodney Steward says:

LOLOL, DID YOU BOTHER TO READ THESE, the top 2 is just like I said, but the bottom one is Obama and the left made up BS!!! GREAT JOB BOBBY!!

        2. chw2000 says:

Are you so stupid to think that someone intent on taking their own life wouldn’t come up with another way other than a firearm? You’re really a special kind of stupid!

    2. Rodney Steward says:

They are gun free zones that the bad guys love, and now our schools have such idiots for teachers pushing socialism and destroying all American morals! (STATUES) come to mind!!

      1. bobnstuff says:

Just how big a problem do we have with shooting in gun free zones? You seem to think we have shootings every day. Out of the around a quarter of a million gun deaths in the US this decade 126 happened in or around schools and most weren’t mass shootings. Also what makes you think our teachers are pushing socialism? Since the single most popular major in US colleges is business I don’t think they are teaching much socialism.

        1. Rodney Steward says:

What do you call Berkeley, CAL., there’s many schools that are not ALLOWING FREE speech, you have been watching the news the past 5 years, right!! And how many schools have been shot up, Sandy Hook, and what was the other two!!

          1. bobnstuff says:

The number I gave you holds, it includes all those deaths. If you don’t trust my numbers get your own based on facts. The first mass shooting on record in a school was in 1764 and ten students died. There has only been a little over a dozen mass shooting in schools in the history of the country. The rest are one or two people being killed. Statistically schools are still one of the safest places in the country.

          2. Rodney Steward says:

You’re really going back aren’t you, all I was talking about was the Brown clown’s time’ 2009 – 2016!!

          3. bobnstuff says:

You do know we aren’t finished with 2017 so it’s hard to get facts on what will happen in the future. We do know that gun sales are down.

          4. Rodney Steward says:

Yes they’ve been down under Trump and really a good bit, people now have a little since of security that they didn’t have under Obama and Hellary! But we still have to be cautious never know what will happen next, ISIS is asking their people of the west USA) to commit Jihad!!
