Alabama Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Doug Jones said Monday he believes his campaign is “better than tied” with Republican Roy Moore on the heels of a Fox News poll that showed Jones was on par with Moore, who had been leading in every other survey.
“I think were better than tied,” Jones said during an appearance Monday on CNN. “We have been seeing such an energy throughout Alabama, from one end of the state to the other. People want change, people are sensing change. They don’t want any more chaos. They see a dysfunctional Washington, D.C., and they want someone who can reach across aisles and try to have dialogue with people and talk to people. That’s the only way we can ever get things done, and they understand that Roy Moore is not that kind of figure. He is nothing but a divisive and polarizing figure.”
The race between Jones and Moore had already been receiving sizable national attention before a Fox News poll released last week showed the two candidates tied at 42 percent apiece.
While polling experts contacted by AL.com said the Fox News survey was an outlier, Jones said he believes he is leading the race, although he did not say his campaign’s internal polling backed up that sentiment.
