Former Maine governor Paul LePage plans run for Congress

Paul LePage Announces Congressional Run

Former Maine Governor Paul LePage has officially entered the race for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, as confirmed by a recent Federal Election Commission filing. LePage, a Republican, previously governed Maine from 2011 to 2019 and holds the record for the most votes received by any governor in Maine’s history during his 2014 re-election.

Despite a setback in 2022, where LePage was defeated by Democrat Janet Mills in the gubernatorial race by a 13 percent margin, he is poised to make a significant political comeback.

Current Political Landscape in Maine’s 2nd District

The 2nd Congressional District is currently represented by Democrat Jared Golden, who is serving his fourth term after a close victory over Republican Austin Theriault in November 2024, decided by ranked-choice voting. Representative Golden has expressed dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party and the broader political environment in Washington, though he has not yet confirmed whether he will seek re-election in 2026.

Republican Momentum Building

Anticipation for LePage’s campaign was stirred by David Whitney, chair of the Washington County Republican Committee, who hinted at an imminent announcement. This was followed by a confident proclamation from Maine GOP Chairman Jim Deyermond, who declared that the district will shift to Republican control in the upcoming election. Deyermond highlighted the growing Republican voter registration advantage in the district, which now surpasses Democratic registration by nearly 31,000 voters.

STOP THE RADICAL LEFT FROM TAKING OVER IN 2026

As a retired Marine Corps General with nearly 50 years of service to the USA, I’m telling you to never underestimate our adversary. Contrary to media reports, they’ve got a plan to sabotage GOP efforts and distract you. They want you to abandon America’s Golden Age. Don’t let them succeed. Stand with me, Jack Bergman, and let’s defeat the left on Capitol Hill!

“Hundreds of volunteers have dedicated thousands of hours to support President Trump’s victory in this district,” Deyermond stated. “Their efforts will now be channeled towards electing a Republican ally to represent this seat, ensuring that President Trump has strong support in Congress.”

With the political tides turning and a strong Republican base rallying behind him, Paul LePage’s campaign for Congress represents a critical effort to strengthen conservative representation and challenge the current Democratic stronghold in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.
