Kari Lake vs. Blake Masters for U.S. Senate? Oh, it’s on (already)

The Wall Street Journal reports that Blake Masters will again run for U.S. Senate.

Arizonans have known about this fact for some time.

It’s been a week since last Thursday. Kari Lake attacked him publicly when he was attacked by her.

Lake and Blake may become Lake vs. Blake

You might remember that Lake and Masters worked together on the campaign trail for Trump’s America First in 2022.

They rallied together. They rode together on buses with their faces emblazoned.

They and the rest lost together.

Now, Lake and Blake will soon be competing against each other.

Lake has not made it a secret that she is running for Senate. She will likely continue to tease the idea for a couple of weeks, even if Masters decides to jump in. She appears to believe that the nomination is all hers, and she may be right.

The mood among the Republican base is the reason that no conservatives have entered this race.

Kari Lake brought the knives out last week

Masters has remained largely unnoticed since his bad performance in 2022. Even the billionaire Peter Thiel couldn’t save him in that disastrous campaign.

Lake’s team began sharpening knives a few months ago.

Politicians tell me that Lake’s team whispers that Masters isn’t a good team player. They say he’s only in it for himself, and that he doesn’t shout loudly enough about election fraud.

Last week, Lake raised the volume.

Masters announced via social media on August 25 that he would be joining Andrew Jackson, a Gilbert Republican running for the Arizona House of Representatives, for a conversation Sunday evening on X (formerly Twitter), entitled “Blake Masters & Praying for America & Arizona.”

Kari Lake wasn’t amused.

Blake, it’s wonderful to have you back! Her “war room” post gave the impression that his return was not great. We hope that your next interview will be with someone who did not spend the past 9 months smearing Kari.

Her attacks then grew louder

Lake then came in with a proper reprimand of her soon to be Senate rival.

She wrote: “I hope that you will bring up Election fraud and Election crime.” “You have been very quiet.” “And ‘Dr. Andrew’ doesn’t believe it exists.”

She threw a few crickets at the end of her message to show her displeasure.

She then turned up the volume.

“The question is, what have ‘Dr. Jackson’ and Blake done to rootout voter fraud or simply show us support those of you who are pushing election reform?” She asked the same question in another post. “Answer? Nothing.”

Maybe… Lake hasn’t provided any evidence at all in her two lost trials contesting the election?

The strongest indication: That Sen. Sinema is running for office in 2020

Or is it because Masters and Johnson, along with everyone who knows about Arizona’s political campaigns, realize that the message will be lost in a general elections?

Can a Republican win if he is a regular Republican?

There’s a good reason why neither of Trump’s picks won in November, while non-Trump Republicans Kimberly Yee or Tom Horne won their races statewide.

Then again, in a three-way general election race — facing off against Democrat-turned-independent Kyrsten Sinema and Democrat Ruben Gallego — you don’t really have to win over a majority of voters. It’s not necessary to win a majority of votes. You only need to be more successful than your opponents.

Back to the Republican Primary.

The upcoming entry of Masters into the Senate race in 2024, along with Mark Lamb (the Pinal County sheriff) and Lake (likely), offers an interesting prospect for one of the key battles to determine who controls the Senate.

Could there be room on the ballot for a traditional Republican candidate to win a primary election with three America Firsters?

Do you know the kind of person who would actually be able to win in November?
