New Mexico Poll: Donald Trump and GOP Senate Candidate in Virtual General Election Ties Before Debate

According to an internal survey conducted by Domenici’s team before Joe Biden’s disastrous performance in the debate, former President Donald Trump and Republican Senate Candidate Nella Domenici were virtually tied with their Democrat opponent in New Mexico.

Zac Weisz of National Journal Hotline National correspondent Zac reported the poll on Monday. It found that Trump and Biden were neck-and-neck in a hypothetical race for president. Trump receives 47 percent, while Biden gets 49 percent of likely voters’ votes.

Weisz says that in a six-way race with more candidates, Biden’s advantage over Trump is down to just one percent. The margins of the two-way race as well as the field are within +- 4 percentage points.

Domenici is leading the Senate race with 42.2 percent. Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-NM, has 45.5 percent. A further 9.7 percent remain undecided. Heinrich’s lead of 3.3 points is within the margin of error.

Breitbart News learned that the poll was conducted between June 19-24 by 1892, and 600 likely voters were sampled.

The survey was conducted before Biden’s performance in the debate on Thursday, which sent shockwaves through the Democrat Party and sparked a discussion on the left regarding the possibility of replacing the 81 year old at the top of Democrat ticket.

The Biden family gathered for a two-day gathering at Camp David, over the weekend. According to the New York Times, the “family” is “united” in their belief that Biden would remain in the race. There were no discussions about dropping out.

Michael LaRosa, a former adviser to Jill Biden as first lady, told Breitbart News that this was the same thing he said on Saturday. LaRosa said that Democratic leadership in Congress would be most likely to initiate a formal discussion behind the scenes with the President about a possible step down.

He claimed that the first lady in particular “would not be comfortable” with a decision such as saying “Joe, I have to step aside.”

“Something similar, and I believe it’s important that your audience knows, that something like that in both parties would probably come from the leadership in Congress,” said he, referring House Minority leader Hakeem Jeffreys (DNY) and Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (DNY).

LaRosa says that if Democrats in Pennsylvania, namely Sen. Bob Casey, begin to suffer, Schumer could react.

Immediate after the debate, Republican Senate Candidates in competitive races across the country began to highlight ties between their opponent and the President. Domenici’s campaign jumped on board the trend in a Santa Fe New Mexican statement published Sunday.

Noah Jennings, campaign manager at the outlet, told:

The performance of President Joe Biden last night was poor, but his and Martin Heinrich’s work over the past few years has been much worse. A high cost-of-living, rampant criminality, and open border are the Biden and Heinrich legacy. This is why New Mexico and Democrats are in turmoil.

Trump’s plan to expand battleground states, including traditionally Democratic states, is reflected in the apparent strength of Trump and Domenici in New Mexico. Democrats have won seven out of the eight previous presidential elections.

In December, Trump shared his vision for the future with Breitbart News’ editor-in chief Alex Marlow and Washington bureau head Matthew Boyle.

Trump told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago retreat that he would make a “heavy play” for New York, New Jersey, Virginia, New Mexico and Minnesota, a state whose election had not been won for years.
