Sisolak trails GOP rival in Nevada governor’s race: poll

Nevada Gov. According to a new poll, Steve Sisolak (D), is currently trailing Joe Lombardo, the Republican challenger in Nevada’s gubernatorial election.

A Wednesday Emerson College Polling-KLAS 8 News Now – The Hill survey found Sisolak had 45 percent support from very likely voters, compared to Lombardo (the Clark County sheriff) with only 49 percent. Three percent of respondents said they were undecided.

Lombardo gains 50 percent support, and Sisolak drops to 46 percent once the survey includes undecided voters who were asked to choose their candidate.

Respondents were also asked who they think will win Nevada’s governor’s election, leaving aside their preferred candidate. The survey showed a dead heat: Half the respondents said Sisolak and half said Lombardo.

Like in many other states and races, 46 percent of the respondents cited the economy as their top concern when deciding how they vote next month. They were followed by threats and democracy (14%), and access to abortion (13%) It is not surprising that the economy was top of mind for voters considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the state’s tourism- and hospitality-driven states.

Both Lombardo (R) and Senate hopeful Adam Laxalt, (R), appear to perform better among Hispanic/Latino voter in the state than their Democratic counterparts.

“In September, almost a third of Hispanic votes were undecided in Nevada Governor and US Senate races. Spencer Kimball, Emerson College Polling executive director, wrote that a majority Hispanic voters support Republicans Laxalt or Lombardo at 54% and 51%, respectively, one week after election day.

He said, “This change occurred between September and now when Cortez Massto was leading 44%-25% with 29% undecided under Hispanics and now trails with these voters 54%-41%.”

The Emerson College Polling – KLAS 8 News Now – The Hill survey included 2,000 likely voters. It was conducted between October 26 and 29. The margin of error was +/- 2.1 percentage points.
