Sen. Charles E. Schumer: House will pass Senate’s immigration bill

House Republicans, including Speaker John A. Boehner, seem dead-set against the Senate’s newly passed immigration reform package. But one key senator who had a hand in writing that legislation believes that within the next few months, Mr. Boehner and his caucus will change their tune and adopt the Senate proposal, including the controversial pathway to citizenship provision.

“I believe by the end of this year, the House will pass the Senate bill. I know that’s not what they think now, and they’ll say, ‘Oh, no, that’s not what’s going to happen,’ but I think it will,” said Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, during an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”

Mr. Schumer is a member of the so-called “Gang of Eight,” the bipartisan group of senators who helped shepherd the bill through the Senate.

Fourteen Republicans joined Senate Democrats in passing the measure last week, the most significant step forward for immigration reform in nearly three decades.
