White House ‘cheap fakes’ response to Biden videos part of push for social media censorship: expert

White House dismisses critics of the term “cheap fake” and claims that they are ‘forced’ to rely upon smears.

White House officials dismiss as “cheap fakes” viral videos that circulate on social media purporting to show President Biden’s declining mental acuity. A conservative tech expert, however, counters that these videos are troubling. The Biden Shop’s pushback against them is part of a “election buzzwords” campaign aimed at pressing social media platforms to take action.

The nonpartisan fact-checkers who have exposed the cheap fake smears that these right-wing critics are forced to use, and the discredited right-wing critics that spread debunked lies including that the 2020 elections were stolen, clearly threaten them. They don’t want to talk about Joe Biden’s agenda of cutting taxes for working families, or bringing violent crimes to historic lows, according to White House spokesperson Andrew Bates.

Bates said, “Their panicked response to mainstream journalists, such as at The Washington Post and NBC News or PolitiFact citing misinformation specialists taking anti-Biden fakes apart, says more than anything we could ever say.”

Biden has appeared “confused” in videos from recent weeks. One video shows him turning his back on the world leaders during a D-Day commemoration event in France, to talk to a parachutist. In another video, he appeared to be unsure of the time it was to sit down. Another video showed him being confused about when he should have sat down.

Karine Jean Pierre, White House Press Secretary, reiterated on Tuesday that these videos are “cheap fakes.” The Media Manipulation Case Book defines “altered media,” as “altered content” that doesn’t require advanced technology. This includes “photoshopping, including face swapping), “lookalikes,” as well as “speeding and slowing down video.”

This term has been used in news articles since 2019, but the number of instances this week is significantly higher following the Biden videos posted on social media.

“It is also insulting to those who watch it, to the people.” We feel we must call this out. We have called it “cheap fakes.” That’s what the media outlets, fact-checkers and others have said. We’ll be very, very clear on this. Jean-Pierre said to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wall on Tuesday that he would be “calling it out” from where he is.

But not everyone believes the explanation. According to Heritage Foundation tech researcher Jake Denton, this is part of “election buzzwords and slogans”.

Denton told Fox News Digital that it was very obvious what was going on. They’re trying a push a term under the school of misinformation in order to pressure social media companies into taking action against videos of this type.

The term “cheap false” is being used a week prior to Biden’s scheduled debate with former President Trump, who is the GOP frontrunner for the general election.

This requires a ramp up stage, where you claim that something is a “cheap false” or malicious in some manner related to misinformation. Then you have the ‘evidence’, the factual pattern, etc., to push social media companies to remove the misinformation relating to an election. To me, this is the kind of seed being planted.”

Denton also labeled the “misinformation specialists” under “pseudo science” which was born out of “digital political” and has found a new home online at fact-checking websites, organizations and media outlets.

Denton stated that “there’s not much science in it at the end of the year.” “They are experts, but what do they analyze?” “There is some truth to the fact that deepfake production requires expertise, but what are they really analyzing?”

Denton said that the intention of the administration is to “gaslight the American public” into believing that his social media posts are not accurate. He said that in reality, the videos reflect his current cognitive abilities and encouraged people to “reject buzzwords, terms, and phrases and just evaluate the videos as is, because they’re damning.”

He said, “It’s horrible because it really is.”

This month, the president’s mental ability has been the focus of political debate after a Washington Journal bombshell report that was dismissed by the White House revealed that many members of Congress were concerned about Biden’s mental acuity, after they said his ageing was evident in private meetings.
