Ashley Moody celebrates Chinese travel advisory, worries they could all be spies anyway

Senator Ashley Moody Supports Trump’s Tough Stance on China

In light of the Chinese government advising its citizens against traveling to the United States, Florida’s Senator Ashley Moody sees this as validation of the effective strategies implemented by the Trump administration. During an appearance on “Fox & Friends First,” Moody expressed her concerns about Chinese tourists potentially engaging in espionage activities.

“President Trump made it clear to his team that the U.S. would no longer be taken advantage of,” Moody stated. She highlighted that the advisory from China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism did not mention the U.S. leadership’s firm stance.

Warnings Issued by China

The advisory from the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism cited the worsening economic and trade relations between China and the U.S., as well as America’s domestic security situation, as reasons for caution. “The Ministry of Culture and Tourism reminds Chinese tourists to fully assess the risks of traveling to the United States and travel with caution,” the statement read. Additionally, the Education Ministry encouraged students to “conduct risk safety assessments.”

Concerns Over Espionage

Senator Moody articulated her concerns about the potential threats posed by Chinese visitors to the U.S. “They’re not hiding the fact that they are enlisting students to come over here and be espionage agents. In fact, they passed laws requiring Chinese nationals to participate in intelligence gathering, and since then we have seen an explosion in those students here on visas sneaking onto military bases, stealing information,” Moody explained.

She argued that the U.S. should have responded more aggressively to these laws by restricting visas for Chinese nationals to protect national security. “We cannot import espionage agents that are going to steal our military secrets or intelligence. This is a clear sign that we are getting back on the right course,” Moody asserted.

Travel Trends from China

Despite the concerns, the number of Chinese nationals visiting the United States has been significant, with more than 1.6 million arrivals last year. The peak occurred in 2017, with over 3.1 million visitors. Although COVID-19 restrictions impacted travel, numbers have begun to recover in recent years.

Senator Moody’s remarks underscore a continued commitment to safeguarding American interests and maintaining a vigilant stance on national security issues related to China.
