‘China is our enemy’: GOP lawmaker shoots down Chinese spy balloon in new ad

Rep Mike Flood from Nebraska is running for a second term.

A Republican congressman has released a new ad in which he shoots a Chinese spy ball out of the air.

Rep. Mike Flood (R-Neb.) is running for his second term in the House of Representatives. He won a special elections in 2022, to replace Jeff Fortenberry, who was indicted.

A 30-second video clip highlights Flood’s record of being a China hawk using remarks from the congressman, and emphasizes China’s immediate threat by displaying a Chinese flag covered balloon that is floating across the screen.

“China is the enemy of our country.” It’s that simple. Flood claims in the advertisement that “the Chinese Communist Party hacks into our computers, purchases land near military bases and spy on our armed services, even right here in Nebraska.”

“That’s the reason I’m fighting for Chinese technology to stay off our cell-towers, to stop China from purchasing Nebraska farmland and to protect Americans from Chinese cyber-attacks and spying.”

Flood, at the end of this video, promises to “do whatever it takes” to protect Nebraska. He cocks a pistol while blowing a balloon into smithereens.

This is reminiscent of the time when a suspected Chinese spy ballon entered U.S. Airspace, floated through multiple states at a low enough level to be seen by the naked eye and was shot down after several days off the coasts of South Carolina.

The Republicans used this incident to demonstrate that President Biden is not tough enough with China. They argued that the Chinese military sent the surveillance device without fear of U.S. retaliation.

Beijing denies that the balloon is a spying device.
