DOJ Sends Musk’s PAC Warning Over $1 Million Voter Lottery
The Wall Street Journal reported that the Justice Department (DOJ) notified Elon Musk’s America PAC of its $1 million sweepstakes to registered voters in swing states, which might have violated federal regulations.
According to the DOJ letter, these payments may violate laws that prohibit compensating people for registering or voting in elections involving candidates from federal offices. WSJ reported. Musk’s political committee is actively promoting the opportunity to win $1,000,000 for registered Pennsylvania voters and six other key states who sign a petition pledging their support for gun rights and free speech.
America Pac declined comment, but earlier a spokesperson claimed that their cash awards are entirely legal and suggested that the outcry of media only helps their cause. The PAC is confident that this initiative is legal and the predictable media meltdown only helps America PAC in its efforts to support Trump”, a representative told WSJ earlier this week.
The Justice Department has written to Elon Musk’s America PAC cautioning him that giving cash payments to voters who sign a petition might violate federal law, according to people familiar with the matter https://t.co/4AcFbc6jic

WSJ reported that three voters in Pennsylvania and one voter in North Carolina received million-dollar prizes. Daily drawings will continue until Election Day and target both new and current registrants. Musk said that his PAC’s million-dollar prizes are given out without any conditions except that winners must support his petition.
The sweepstakes is designed to increase voter registration in battleground states, as Musk supports Donald Trump’s campaign for reelection. Musk announced that at a rally in Pennsylvania for Trump’s election campaign on Saturday night, he would give $1 million per day to one person.
Rick Hasen, a UCLA law professor, asked if a constitutional amendment was necessary to limit the influence of ultra-wealthy people like Musk in campaigning. Hasen stated on MSNBC, that efforts to limit election spending by ultra-rich individuals have been deemed unconstitutional under current law. This affirms the legality Musk’s super PACs and other ventures.
The Justice Department and America PAC didn’t immediately respond to a Daily Caller News Foundation request for comments.
