House GOP mounts Trump-backed push to expand concealed carry permits for millions of Americans
A member of the House GOP leadership introduced a bill that would radically expand concealed carrying permissions across the nation.
Richard Hudson, R.C. National Republican Congressional Committee chair, and leader of the House GOP’s campaign arm, will unveil his Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, a measure that has already been endorsed by over 120 House Republicans, on Tuesday.
Jared Golden (D-Maine), a single member of the House Democratic Caucus has also expressed support for it.
Hudson, Fox News Digital: “What we are talking about is requiring that states recognize the permit from another state as you would recognize a drivers license.” “When I drive from North Carolina to D.C. across Virginia, i don’t stop and take another driver’s license at the Virginia border. The state accepts the North Carolina license.”

The President-elect Trump said that he would sign a similar bill, if one reached his desk.
“I will sign reciprocity for concealed carry.” “Your Second Amendment doesn’t end at the state border,” he said, in a video he made to start his campaign for 2024.
Donald Trump Jr. shared the video a few days after his father was elected president in early November.
Hudson claimed he had discussed the issue but not the legislation with Trump.
The North Carolina Republican said, “I’m sure I’ll need to his help in order to get this through the Senate.”
The bill was passed by the House of Representatives in 2017, but not the Senate.
Despite the fact that Republicans control both Congress and the White House, he is still optimistic about the bill’s chances of reaching the White House.
Hudson said, “I believe we have the best chance to get this law passed since 2017”.
According to the Social Science Research Network, in 2023, nearly 22 million Americans possess some type of concealed carry permit.
He cited the case of Shaneen Allan, a Philadelphia single mother who was stopped during a routine New Jersey traffic stop but was arrested when she told officers about her concealed carry permit.
Hudson explained that there are a number of state laws governing concealed carry. This bill clarifies the law and corrects the situation in which a law-abiding person can be made a criminal by simply crossing an invisible state border.
Gun Owners of America, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and the U.S. are also in support of the bill. Concealed Carry Association.
Aidan Johnston, Director of Federal Affaires at GOA, told Fox News Digital that “With all fifty states issuing concealed carry permit, 49 states allowing the nonresident carry, and 29 states with constitutional carry or permitless carry, it’s just common sense for Congress ensure each state’s concealed carry license will be valid in every state.”
