‘It’s basically tree bark now:’ Students up complaints about Michelle O’s lunch menu

BALLWIN, Mo. – Students have no problem telling adults exactly what they think of the new “healthy” school lunches championed by First Lady Michelle Obama.

“It’s basically tree bark now,” Parkway West High School senior Stone Ramatowski tells St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “That’s all you can eat.”

Lunch lines used to be “out the door” for sandwiches brought in from fast-food chains like Chick-fil-A or Arby’s, but now with the “healthy” lunches, they’re only a few students deep.

Parkway West has experienced a 20 percent drop in lunch sales since the rules were implemented.

How unbelievably petty! You have one of the most important events of the last 10 years going on in Russia right now, and not a mention of that news. Yet you quote some spoiled high schooler whining because someone’s making him eat salads and whole grain breads.

If it were salads and whole grains, they wouldn’t be complaining. At least then they would have something to fill their stomachs until they got home. Most of them are active growing children and you can’t put them on an adult diet, they need more calories. The heavy children that Obama complains about are mainly coming from foodstamp families. They eat high caloric foods at home. I live by one of their housing sites. There are only a few students that might have a medical issue. To punish all for less than 10% of the total student body is rediculous.
Schools are also losing money because many are starting to brown bag it.

Yeah, it’s a real punishment to force kids to eat healthy. Too bad they can’t have Burger King every day. Oh well…

        1. cal3301 says:

Have you ever seen what these lunches look like. It is not so much about healthy to these kids, it’s the fact that there is no taste and it’s about hunger that sets in soon afterwards. It’s about the fact that they are being given so little to eat in these school lunches that the hunger is making it hard to do their school work.
People like you are so quick to have smug remarks about things or people without even knowing the facts as to why a child or anyone else is complaining about anything. Get over yourself. No one forced you to read the article.

          1. I Seigel says:

And the quote in the story comes from a kid named “Stone”. Probably the BMOC or the team quarterback. What a whining pansy.

And you’re an expert on these meals because you’ve eaten them, or served them? What facts do you know?

          2. cal3301 says:

The only real whiner I see is you, grow up. ALL the children have been complaining about these and posting pictures since this Obama program started.

      2. Dan S. says:

I have seen what my grandkids get on their lunch trays. They barely get enough to get them through the afternoon.

        1. cal3301 says:

I agree. You cannot limit the calories of a growing child. A doctor will tell you that. It’s bad enough that Obama is destroying our country. His wife is destroying our next generations by under feeding our children.

    2. Dan S. says:

You are the petty one. Kids today do not get nearly enough to eat. My grandchildren take their lunch to school more days than not.. On the days they do actually eat at school, there may actua5lly be only one or two items they actually eat because the rest is like cardboard. We need to remember that we didn’t always enjoy our lunch menu either. Yes, we do need to be concerned by other things going on in the world. Calling the lunch menu at school something that is petty is horrible and sends a bad connection with these kids. These kids need to known that we do support them.

      1. I Seigel says:

Fine. But it sure sounds like everyone just wants to find a scapegoat in Obama. Get the local school board to do something. Don’t blame every single problem on the WH. It sure looks like they have a lot more to worry about than what little Stone has for lunch.

        1. Dan S. says:

I really don’t really appreciate the government over stepping it’s bounds and trying to legislate everything. Do you have kids in school? If so, aren’t you concerned about what they are being given to eat? Above all that, Michelle has no business trying to tell ANYONE what, or how to eat. With her backside as big as a barn. I mean really?!?!?!?
