New FCC Chair to Reinstate Complaints Against ABC, CBS, NBC

Newsmax reports that the new Republican chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Brendan Carr will reverse the decision made by the former Democrat chairman to reject three complaints filed against major media outlets at the eleventh hour.

Jessica Rosenworcel announced last week that, with only a few days remaining in her term as chair of the FCC under the Biden Administration, she would dismiss four pending petitions or complaints, which she felt were intended to “curtail the freedom of the media.”

Three petitions were about coverage of the Presidential campaign, while the other was a complaint against Fox News Channel.

Carr, who was appointed by Donald Trump on Monday, intends to reverse the dismissals of complaints regarding the presidential election against ABC, NBC, and CBS but not against Fox.

Newsmax reported that a source said Carr would put the ABC cases, NBC cases, and CBS case back in pending status or active status. This means that the complaints made against the three broadcasters can be judged on their merits.

Sources said that Rosenworcel would have been able to prevent the FCC from changing course if she had acted earlier. Carr could not have overturned his predecessor’s decisions if Rosenworcel had acted a few weeks earlier.

Center of American Rights is a conservative non-profit that filed three of the complaints. The Center of American Rights, a conservative nonprofit, filed three complaints. One said ABC News gave a preference to Vice President Kamala Harris in the debate for the presidency. Another complained about the way CBS News’ 60 Minutes edited an interview Harris. And the third complaint was about Harris’ appearance at “Saturday Night Live,” because Trump did not get equal time.

The complaint filed against Fox for 2020 election coverage is not being brought back.
