NY Dem Rep. Goldman Files Censure Resolution Against Stefanik for ‘Persistent,’ ‘Continued’ Support of Jan. 6 Rioters
Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) will introduce a motion to censure Elise Stefanik of the Empire State Republican Party for her comments calling January 6 insurrectionists “hostages”. He also accused her of spreading voter fraud conspiracy theories.
Goldman, in a letter announcing the censure resolution he had filed against a colleague’s speech, said that “January 6th represented the gravest attack since the Civil War on American democracy.”
Goldman says Stefanik is a “congressional booster” of former President Donald Trump. She has put her “personal ambitions above her integrity.”
Democrats have condemned Stefanik’s remarks in which she referred to those who were convicted of crimes related to Capitol attack as hostages. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), Minority Leader, said that the congresswoman should be ashamed for her remarks. Rep. Jaime Raskin (D-Md.) suggested that she was auditioning for Trump’s Vice President.

The Congresswoman Stefanik’s remarks are a betrayal of her oath of office and the House of Representatives and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Her words betray her oath of service and the House of Representatives, and should be condemned as strongly as possible.
Stefanik responded to Goldman’s censure on X (formerly Twitter), where she used the opportunity as a fundraiser.
Stefanik wrote: “Desperate, corrupt Far Left House Democrats try to force me to vote for censure for my unwavering commitment to the Constitution, rule of law and election integrity.” “Democrats have fallen into a freefall because they believe that President Trump will beat Joe Biden in November. I will ALWAYS be a voice for #NY21, the American people, President Trump, and the Constitution. Join the fight here: http://DefendElise.com.”
Goldman said to reporters on Thursday outside the Capitol that he wouldn’t file the censure measure as privileged. This would force the chambers to consider the matter within two legislative days. Goldman told reporters outside the Capitol on Thursday that he would not file the censure measure as privileged, which would force the chamber to consider it within two legislative days.
Goldman stated, “We hope that other Republicans, particularly those in New York where Ms. Stefanik, and I, both come from, will recognize that this type of rhetoric is unacceptable.” “And that Republicans bring it up themselves.” If they do not, we will consider moving forward on a privileged measure.”
Rep. Jamaal bowman, D.Y. passed the most recent censure for a fire alarm he pulled in a House Office Building in September. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. Three Democrats joined Republicans to censure the New York Congressman.
Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) was censured for her incendiary rhetoric regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict.
