Reactions Pour In After the Death of 39th President Jimmy Carter
The oldest U.S. President, former president Jimmy Carter, died on Sunday, aged 100.
Chip Carter, Carter’s son confirmed that Carter died at home in Plains Georgia at around 3:45 pm. The 39th President entered Hospice in February 2023 after a number of hospitalizations. He had a small liver mass removed in 2015 and announced shortly afterward that he was suffering from liver cancer.
Rosalynn died in 2023 at age 96. They were married for over 77 years.
Carter is regarded as one of the most notable and respected figures in American politics, due primarily to his humanitarian work after he left office. Carter’s presidency was marked by many challenges, but it is remembered for its emphasis on human rights and energy conservation. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946. Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his humanitarian and global peace efforts. He was closely involved with Habitat for Humanity, and he personally helped with many construction projects.
Carter is survived in death by his children Amy, Chip Jack and Jeff, as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Joe Biden, the outgoing president, expressed his sorrow for Carter and those who survived him. He said that it was a privilege to be able to call Carter a friend.
Biden stated that “what’s remarkable about Jimmy Carter is that millions of Americans and people around the globe who have never met him also thought of him as their dear friend.” “With his compassion, and moral clarity, Jimmy Carter worked to eradicate diseases, forge peace and advance civil and human rights. He promoted free and fair elections. He housed the homeless and always advocated for the least of us. He changed and saved the lives of many people around the world.
Kamala Harris, the Vice President, echoed Carter’s remarks and recalled his “kindness” as well as his “wisdom, profound grace, and profundity.”
Harris stated that “throughout his life, President Carter’s love and support from his partner for 77 years was First Lady Rosalynn Carter. President Biden and myself had the chance to celebrate her life in Georgia last summer,” Harris added. “After leaving the White House, President Carter continued to fight for peace and democracy through his Carter Center. His life and legacy inspire me and future generations. The world is better because of President Carter. Doug and I send love and prayers to Carter’s family.”
