In his more high profile appearance since leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Rick Santorum said Sunday that he is prepared to battle Texas Congressman Ron Paul for the loudest voice at this year’s Republican presidential convention.

“I like the platform that we have right now. I’m concerned that Ron Paul and some of his supporters out there are looking for a platform fight. And I want to make sure that we have strong, principled conservatives there who stood with me in our primary fight to go there and counterbalance the effect of the Paul folks,” said Mr. Santorum on ABC’s This Week.

The Pennsylvania Republican, who exited the race for the Republican nomination in late April, has endorsed former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney — the presumptive Republican nominee. While Mr. Santorum says he plans to support Mr. Romney’s bid, in recent days a growing divide between Mr. Santorum and Mr. Paul has grown.

Speaking Sunday, Mr. Santorum downplayed speculation that the battle between him and Mr. Paul’s campaign could cast a shadow on the August convention.

“We’re focused on trying to do what we can to help Gov. Romney, help candidates all across this country by rallying conservatives, getting them excited about this race and the importance of it,” said Mr. Santorum. “And that’s really all I’m focused on right now. And I wish Gov. Romney the best, and I’ll do whatever I can to be helpful to him.”

Although I am a registered Republican, I have followed Ron Paul for years. The GOP is more scared of Paul and what he stands for than the Democrats, because most of them are not much different than Dems. Ron Paul is the only candidate that truly stands for limited government and for getting rid of all of the programs and pork that both Democrats and the GOP support. Our government is full of politicians who enjoy and are benefiting from spending “other peoples’ money”, and creating an excessive number of worthless and overly restrictive laws. It’s sad that the GOP front runner is getting most of his support from those who find him the lesser of two duds; the only reason that I am likely to vote for him and considering that our government, who is supposed to be maintaining our country based on the Constitution, have done nothing to prevent or now remove an undocumented illegal from holding the Presidential office.
