We are now several days past the Media Made Up Mile Marker of a Presidents’ first 100 days.
So, what is on the agenda for President Trump and the Republican controlled Senate and House? The repeal of Obamacare is still a major issue. With a temporary budget passed until September, increases in Defense spending and money allotted for Federal agencies; the GOP is continuing to pursue the change, if not eradication of the Affordable Care Act.
House Republicans plan to vote Thursday on the latest version of the American Health Care Act – their answer to ObamaCare. The Plan proposed by the Republicans is summarized as such:
-Ends tax penalties, under the original Affordable Care Act, for individuals who don’t buy insurance coverage and larger employers who don’t offer coverage. Instead, insurers would apply a 30 percent surcharge to customers who’ve let coverage lapse for more than 63 days in the past year.
-Ends tax increases on higher-earning people and a range of industry groups including insurers, drug makers and medical device manufacturers.
-Cuts the Medicaid program for low-income people and lets states impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients. Forbids states that haven’t already expanded Medicaid to do so.
-Overhauls insurance subsidy system from one based largely on incomes and premium costs to a system of tax credits. The credits would rise with customers’ ages and, like the subsidies, could be used toward premium costs.
-Lets states get federal waivers allowing insurers to charge older customers higher premiums than younger ones by as much as they’d like. Obama’s law limits the difference to a 3-1 ratio. States also can get waivers exempting insurers from providing consumers with required coverage of specified health services, and from Obama’s prohibition against insurers charging higher premiums to people with pre-existing health problems, but only if the person has had a gap in insurance coverage.
-States could only get the latter waivers if they have mechanisms like high-risk pools that are supposed to help cover people with serious, expensive-to-treat diseases. A newly added provision would give another $8 billion over five years to help states finance their high-risk pools.
-Blocks federal payments to Planned Parenthood for a year.
President Trump continues to eliminate the heinous and dangerous executive orders left by his predecessor President Obama. Initiating a review of the Federal Land Grab, President Trump is seeing to it, that the land of the American people be returned to them.
“President Trump last month ordered a review of national monuments, an examination that will cover more than 100,000 acres that were designated by presidential decree over the past 21 years, and will assess whether past presidents put a stranglehold on millions of acres of federal land to keep it from being used by ranchers, farmers or for outdoor recreation.
The Department of the Interior will look at dozens of monuments, starting with the Bear Ears National Monument located in southeast Utah. It covers 1.35 million acres and was proclaimed a National Monument by President Barack Obama on December 28, 2016, just as he was leaving office.
Trump referred to it as a “massive federal land grab,” noting: “It’s time to end these abuses and return control to the people.” (Read More)
Still trying to find the funding for the promised border wall, it has been suggested that President Trump and his administration use the money seized from Drug King Pin El Chapo.
With tensions growing in North Korea, and recent Russian bomber intrusions in Alaskan airspace; President Trump has a boat load of work ahead of him.
