Marjorie Taylor Greene to introduce measure to defund Trump special counsel
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, (R-Ga.), on Monday pledged to introduce a bill that would defund the investigations of former President Donald Trump by special counsel Jack Smith.
Greene announced on the House Floor that he was writing a rider for appropriations to defund Jack Smith as special counsel, the office of his office, and the investigation. This is a weaponized attempt by the government to bring down Donald J. Trump, the leading presidential candidate and top political opponent of the United States.
Trump, 76 years old, will be arraigned on Tuesday in Miami, Fla. on 37 charges relating to his alleged mishandling classified White House documents.
Smith claims in the 49-page indictment of Trump that the former President improperly retained sensitive documents after leaving office. These include “information about defense and weapons capability of both the United States of America and foreign countries; United States Nuclear Programs; potential vulnerabilities of United States of America and its Allies to military attacks; and plans for a possible retaliation to foreign attack.”

The special counsel, appointed by Attorney-General Merrick Garland and charged with overseeing two federal investigations into Trump, alleges further that Trump had discussed the possession of classified material with other people and stored it in a “ballroom and bathroom, an office, his bedroom and a storage space” at the Mar-a-Lago residence and club.
“We cannot allow government to be weaponized in a political manner. I would also like to invite all my colleagues to join in on this effort. Greene said that the government must stop weaponizing itself by using the power of appropriations, particularly since we know there are other people who are guilty.
Never forget that Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State and senator, had classified documents on Anthony Weiner’s laptop. Weiner was convicted for sending minor inappropriate photos. This is not the way classified documents should ever be handled. She continued, “There should have been an inquiry into this.”
Greene pointed out President Biden’s scandal over classified documents and suggested that there is a double-standard between the Justice Department’s handling of Trump’s case versus Biden’s.
Don’t forget Joe Biden documents, which are in his garage near his Corvette. “America sees it for what it is, and we won’t let it stand,” she said.
Greene called on Republicans to cut funding for the office of special counsel Jack Smith.
Greene’s plan seems to be supported by some of her colleagues in Congress.
Matt Gaetz, a Republican from Florida, tweeted on Monday his support for Greene’s measure.
This is an Article I flex!” Gaetz tweeted: “I’m here for it!”
Greene stated on Monday that “we cannot allow the government be weaponized to political ends”.
Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., argued on Sunday that Congress should use the “Holman Rule,” allowing it to amend appropriations legislation to target specific programs and individuals.
Biggs, in a Twitter post, wrote: “Congress should hold the Biden DOJ responsible by defunding its efforts during the appropriations processes, implementing the Holman Rule for removing and defunding corrupt officials, as well as conducting oversight over its baseless investigation.”
Smith is also looking into Trump’s involvement in the riot that occurred at the Capitol Building on Jan. 6, 2021.
