Avril haines, Director of National Intelligence and other officials will give the first classified briefing to senators on artificial intelligence. The briefing is scheduled for 3 pm Tuesday.

The Capitol’s sensitive compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) will host the briefing. It comes at a time when lawmakers are increasingly interested in regulating and investing in emerging technologies.

The briefing will include Haines as well as the Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks. Director of White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Arati Prabhakar and Director of National Geospatial Intelligence Agency Tres Whitworth. Craig Martell is the chief digital officer of the Defense Department.

The briefing was announced by Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer (D, N.Y.), in a Sunday letter to his colleagues.

Schumer told colleagues that the briefing would inform senators about “how we use and invest in AI to protect national security, and learn what our enemies are doing in AI.”
