Criminal Gangs Are Taking U.S. Shipments of Weapons Meant for Ukraine

All the arms worth millions of dollars that the Biden Administration sends to Ukraine in order to fight the ongoing war against Russia end up in criminal gangs’ hands.

Inspector General Report of the U.S. Defense Department found that there was a lack in accountability for maintaining equipment sent to Ukraine.

According to a 19-page report released by the Pentagon’s Office of the Inspector General under the Freedom of Information Act, a group of fictitious humanitarian aid workers tried to acquire a large number of bulletproof vests provided by the United States.

The report stated that “in late June 2022 the SBU arrested a group Ukrainian criminals who were posing as humanitarian aid workers and distributed bulletproof vests.” The group illegally imported the vests, and instead of distributing them to Ukrainian Forces they sold them. One group member was discovered with vests worth $17,000.”

The report stated that the Security Service Of Ukraine intervened with a group of weapons traffickers who were selling stolen ammunition and arms from the frontlines in Ukraine.

Since the publication of this report in October last year, the U.S. government has provided more than $113 billion worth of assistance to Ukraine. This includes military, humanitarian and financial aid.

Other groups were able to steal hundreds of rifles and helmets.

The report stated that “in mid-August 2022 the SBU arrested a group consisting of volunteers who had taken more than 60 rifles, and almost 1,000 ammunition rounds, and illegally stored them in a warehouse. They were presumably storing the items to be sold on the black market.”

The GOP-controlled House of Representatives has passed its version of National Defense Authorization Act. This calls for an inspector general special to supervise spending in Ukraine.

Republicans, despite the Biden administration’s opposition to such an action, have pledged to stop sending millions in U.S. Dollars to Ukraine.
