House Republicans Call Out Biden’s DHS for Dismissing, Closing 92K Deportation Cases in Single Year
Breitbart News learned that a group of House Republicans led by Rep. Andy Biggs, R-AZ, are criticizing President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security for dismissing or closing nearly 92,000 cases of deportation last year.
Biggs and a number of House Republicans sent a letter demanding answers from DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas regarding the agency’s decision to dismiss or administratively shut down 91,938 cases of deportation in Fiscal Year 2020 that were pending at the Executive Office of Immigration Review.
The Republicans write
It is clear that the Secretary has made the connection to understand the massive number of cases dismissed as a part of the daily incentives offered by this administration. You could try to enforce the law to deter illegal entry. There is precedent for this idea.
You and the OPLA leadership may argue all you want about latitude and the benefits of prosecutorial discretion. But this directive coupled with the dangerous immigration policies of this administration can only lead to one conclusion: you have discovered another way to circumvent federal law and exploited this to the detriment the American people. [Emphasis added]
The letter was signed by Reps. Michael Cloud, Matt Gaetz, Diana Harshbarger, Jodee Arrington, Ronny Jackson and Brian Babin. Paul Gosar is also a signatory. Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma (R), Matt Rosendale of Montana (R), John Rose of Tennessee (R), Lance Gooden from Texas (R), Harriet Hageman R-WY (R), Eric Burlison R-MO (R), Byron Donalds R-FL (R)
The Republicans are particularly interested in knowing how many cases of deportation were dismissed and how many were administratively closed. They also want to know how many cases the administration is reviewing this year to dismiss or to close.
Under Biden’s leadership, the number illegal aliens living in the United States who are still facing deportation but have final orders from an immigration judge is now 1.2 million.
In Fiscal Year 2022, there were nearly 4.8 millions illegal aliens in the U.S. that had either deportation or pending orders. This is an increase of almost 100 percent from Fiscal Year 2017, where about 2.4 Million illegal aliens lived in the U.S.
