Rep. Jim Jordan, R-OH, is running to be speaker of the GOP controlled House of Representatives.

Jordan’s plans were confirmed by a spokesman to The Daily Wire, on Wednesday. This was less than one day after the House of Representatives removed Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R – CA) from his position.

According to a Washington Examiner report, Jordan stated after leaving the office of the Speaker, “I have had many people ask me to do this, because I believe we can.” We’ll have to wait and see, but I believe I can.

Jordan has already been endorsed by a number of Republicans.

Thomas Massie, R-KY, said on X that he would be his first choice if he ran.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, the Republican congressman from Florida who led the efforts to remove McCarthy from his position as speaker of the House, has also stated that he will support Jordan.

Jordan is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. From this position, he led investigations into Biden’s administration in the past year.

Jordan wrote a letter on Wednesday to House colleagues to celebrate McCarthy’s success during his nine-month tenure as speaker. He also emphasized McCarthy’s ability to “unite the conference.”

Jordan wrote: “Now is the right time for our Republican Conference to unite and keep our promises to Americans.” “We can concentrate on the improvements that will improve the country, and we can unite to offer real solutions.” We must work together in a conference, no matter what.

He concluded by saying, “I respectfully request your support as Speaker of the House of Representatives.”

Jordan was asked Tuesday night during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity about rumors that the former president Donald Trump had “been contacted” regarding becoming an “interim speaker”.

Jordan called Trump “great”, but said he wanted Trump to become the next president. Trump has launched a campaign in 2024 for a second White House term.

McCarthy was removed as Speaker of the House by 216 votes to 210. He had held this position since January. Eight Republicans voted against McCarthy with Democrats, citing their frustrations over his leadership. They were: Gaetz (FL), Andy Biggs, Ken Buck, Eli Crane, Bob Good, Bob Good (VA), Matt Rosendale, Tim Burchett, Nancy Mace, and Ken Buck.

Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-NC, became the temporary speaker while lawmakers debated who would run for office. According to multiple reports, House Majority leader Steve Scalise is lobbying support for his bid. To win, a simple majority is required.

Jordan faces the same hurdles as every other candidate to reach 218. Scalise appears to have a strong opponent,” Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman wrote in a post on X.
