Georgia Secretary of state Brad Raffensperger’s office announced on Tuesday that 17 suspected cases of double voting at the general election in 2022 will be referred to district attorneys.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office, Raffensperger referred individuals to the district attorney who voted in Georgia as well as in another state in the general election in 2022. The district attorneys will examine the cases to determine if indictments should be pursued.

Georgia counties where the alleged double voting occurred include Barrow, Chatham and Douglas.

Raffensperger stated in a press release that “one illegal vote is too many.” “Georgians should be able to express themselves fully and not have their voices diluted by bad actors.”

The Secretary of State’s Office attributed these referrals to the information it received from the Electronic Registration Information Center, a multistate organization for the sharing of voter data that facilitates voter registration. ERIC is currently comprised of 24 states plus the District of Columbia.

Nine GOP-led states left ERIC in 2022 amid concerns about partisanship, rising costs, and failure to combat voter fraud.
