Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, (D), said that she would never say no to being Vice President Harris’ running mate if she were to replace President Biden as the head of the Democratic presidential ticket.

Whitmer, however, stressed that she was committed to serving her entire term as Governor and wasn’t looking for a job in Washington.

“I never considered opportunities in Washington, D.C. with much excitement, because I love Michigan.” Whitmer replied, “I love state government”, in an ABC interview with “The View”, when asked if she would be Harris’s Vice President if Biden stepped down.

Whitmer, who is a cochair of the Biden and Harris reelection campaigns, said: “But you know, I won’t say never. But that’s certainly not what I’m aiming for.” “I made a promise to finish my term in Michigan.”

The governor of the swing state has been mentioned a lot as a potential replacement for Biden should he withdraw his candidacy, something he has insisted he won’t do. Whitmer also expressed frustration over stories that mentioned her as a potential replacement. In the interview, she reaffirmed her commitment to the president.

Whitmer responded, “I do think so. That’s why I am a cochair of the Biden and Harris reelection campaigns.”

She added, “The Biden-Harris Administration has achieved many things. Whether it was lowering the price of insulin or relocating supply chains after the pandemic. Whether it was helping people return to work and have more money in their pocket — this is what they’ve done.” “He has an incredibly talented vice president at his side. We are electing them together, and I am excited about it.”

Whitmer said that if Biden were to step down, Harris would be an obvious choice to take his place.

She said, “She is vice president because she deserves it.” “I think this would be a natural conclusion and I’d be happy to support her too.”

Her comments follow a Q&A with USA Today in which the Michigan Governor defended Biden, explaining that anyone would find his hectic schedule “brutal”.

Six House Democrats publicly called for Biden’s resignation after his performance in the debate prompted concerns within the party regarding his position at the top. Many Democrats have redoubled their support for the incumbent, including the leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
