RNC Chair Michael Whatley says ‘politics is secondary’ after Trump assassination attempt

Michael Whatley, chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), says that he expects Trump will be at the convention this week in Milwaukee.

After the attempted assassination of former President Trump, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Whatley stated that “politics are secondary”.

Whatley, appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” said that he expects Trump to be at the convention, which begins Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Shannon Bream, the host of the show, asked Whatley to comment on the Wall Street Journal editorial that said the assassination at the Butler rally in Pennsylvania is an opportunity for Trump’s party and himself to call for unity at the Republican National Convention. Journal editors said that Trump would “make a mistake” if he blamed Democrats for the attempted assassination on Saturday. They also suggested that the Trump campaign, thinking of the country and not just the election, should make Milwaukee’s theme a call to unity in politics and the best of American nature.

The board also added, “the country does not want civil war but civil discourse and disagreement.”

“Unity is important, I believe. I believe that strength is very important. Whatley responded, “I think that politics is not important right now.

He added, “I believe right now we should be praying for the families who have been affected.” “I think that we should be thankful that President Trump is still alive and will be in Milwaukee. We look forward to his presence, which I believe is going to have a tremendous impact on America.”

Bream asked the chairman if he felt that the shooting was “a bit of wake-up call” that the rhetoric had gotten so heated, given that Democrats claimed that Trump’s reelection would end the democracy as we knew it. Bill Barr, Trump’s former Attorney General, said on Fox News Saturday night that Democrats need to stop their “grossly reckless talk” about Trump as “an existential danger to democracy.”

Where do we go with our political discussion? Bream asked Whatley, “I mean, this nation is built on the ability to disagree in a heated manner, but how about this?”

Whatley stated, “This kind of violence and these kinds of actions have no place in the political world in any shape or form.” It’s a horrible act. We don’t have all the details, but we will investigate it. Right now, however, I believe that everyone in America must stop. They must pause. They must reflect on the real issues that are important to us as we move forward in this political process.”

He added, “And, you’ll be happy to know that we are in Milwaukee, where the show will take place.” “I believe it is extremely important for us to see the Republican Party move forward. We will be strong. “We are going to be strong, and President Trump will be no exception.

Whatley, on the security of the convention that took more than 18 months planning, said, “the arena is set, the security has arrived, and we are very confident working with the Secret Service.”

He stated that the RNC works with 40 different law-enforcement agencies to ensure the security of the convention.

This will be an area where we can have 50,000 delegates, alternates, guests and media members who are safe. “That’s critical to us,” he said. “Look, I think our business is critical to the process. We will nominate President Trump as president and a vice-president. The nominees will give speeches in order to accept their nominations. We’ll then move back to the field. “We’re going up our sleeves and getting to work.”
