Harris’ closing argument focused on bashing Trump
In a speech to tens and thousands of supporters in front of the White House, Kamala Harris focused her closing argument on denouncing former President Donald Trump. She warned that he is “unstable,” and will conduct a second-term “obsessed” with revenge.
Ms. Harris gave the prime time address at the Ellipse just one week before Election Day. Her words were intended to discourage voters from voting for Mr. Trump who, despite a small but consistent advantage over her in seven battleground states and nationally that will determine who wins the election, has a consistently tiny lead.
The choice of location was meant to convey a message. On Jan. 6, 2021 Mr. Trump spoke to his supporters at the same venue, and critics claim that the speech inspired supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol to try to stop the certification of Joseph R. Biden’s victory.
“He’s the one who stood here nearly four years ago, and sent a mob of armed men to the United States Capitol in order to overturn the vote of the people at a fair and free election, which he knew that he had lost,” said Ms. Harris.
As she raced toward the finish of a race that was essentially tied, Ms. Harris warned the few remaining undecided voters as well as Democrats who may be contemplating not voting.
Donald Trump plans to use the United States Military against American citizens that simply disagree with him. He calls them — quote — “the enemy within”. This is not someone who wants to make your life better. “This is a person who is unstable, obsessed by revenge, consumed by grievances, and out to unchecked powers,” Ms. Harris stated.
Mr. Trump has denied the accusations. In a prebuttal speech delivered earlier on Tuesday at Mar-a-Lago he accused Ms. Harris spreading “vicious liars” about him, and that she was conducting a campaign which is dividing America.
Mr. Trump slammed Ms. Harris, saying she had governed ineptly with President Biden, and that if she were elected, “she would destroy the entire country.”
Harris campaign advisers positioned her speech as a way to assure voters that she would “turn the pages” on the divisive Trump years and unite the nation.
Ms. Harris promised her supporters that she would “seek out common ground and common-sense solutions to improve your lives.”
The vice president promised that she would not score political points by appointing a Republican in her cabinet, but instead make progress.
“I promise to listen to the experts.” “To those who will be affected by my decisions,” said Ms. Harris. “And people who disagree me.” Contrary to Donald Trump, i don’t think people who disagree are my enemies. He wants them to go to jail. “I’ll let them sit at my table.”
Top Democratic donors worry that Ms. Harris’ focus on attacking the character of Mr. Trump is not being received well by voters.
Democratic polling revealed that voters would be more inclined to vote for her, if she explained how she would combat inflation and secure the border.
In the same poll, voters did not respond to claims that Trump would rule like Adolf Hitler and is a fascist. These are attacks Ms. Harris’s team often level.
Ms. Harris, despite the polling results, continued to attack Mr. Trump’s persona on Tuesday while offering a glimpse of her own presidential campaign. She promised to lower costs and cut taxes for the workers and middle class. She reiterated her proposals for stopping alleged price gouging, and allowing Medicare to cover home healthcare.
She promised to sign legislation to legalize abortion on a federal level, which she called “reproductive freedom”.
She said that Mr. Trump, on the other hand would ban abortions nationwide, curtail the use of birth control, and require the government monitor pregnancies – none of which has he ever said or denied.
“We know what Donald Trump is planning, America.” More chaos. More division. Policies that benefit those at the top but hurt everyone else. I propose a different way. “I ask for your vote,” said Ms. Harris.
She said that Mr. Trump will cut taxes for the billionaires and large corporations, and increase the cost of goods through tariffs.
She positioned herself as a candidate with an instinct for protecting people and who spent the majority of her life outside Washington, D.C.
I find it very disturbing when people are treated unfairly, or ignored. I don’t want it. My mother taught me to be adamant about holding those accountable who abuse their power or wealth to take advantage of others. She also taught me to stand up for hardworking Americans, who are not always heard or seen and deserve to have a voice,” said Ms. Harris.
She said, “I’ll tell you what kind of president I’ll be.”
The Ellipse was crowded with supporters cheering and waving flags for the vice-president.
The campaign was granted a permit that allowed up to 40,000 people to attend, but Biden himself did not. According to his official schedule, he was at White House.
The rally outside the Ellipse had a carnival-like atmosphere. Local musicians played songs like “Dancing Queen”, by Abba, and “Love Train”, by the O’Jays on the sidewalk.
The vice president’s supporters held signs that included “Intelligence not Insurrections”, “Bullies Never Win” and other anti-Trump slogans.
Demonstrators anti-Israel outside the perimeter security blasted drums and shouted, “No bombs.” No more cargo. No more cargo.
Martha Joseph, her husband Brett and their daughter, Ava, traveled to Cleveland from Cleveland in order to demonstrate that Ms. Harris has support “from all over the county”.
Ms. Joseph stated that retaining reproductive rights was the most important issue in her campaign.
She said, “To me, reproductive right extends beyond abortion and includes contraception and women’s health issues.” “But I also agree with her views on the U.S. role in the global community.” She supports our allies including NATO and Ukraine.”
Ms. Harris delivered a speech that was at the center of a campaign to promote her election day address. Before her remarks. Ms. Harris conducted five interviews including four in Detroit, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh.
Republicans called Harris’ D.C. address divisive, and warned that a Harris presidency will be a liberalized version of Biden’s administration. Biden has had historically low approval ratings due to high inflation rates, interest rates, and uncontrolled immigration at the southern border.
Michael Whatley, chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), said that Ms. Harris was stirring up division because her “America Last” agenda had nothing to offer American citizens. Kamala Harris ruined our economy, border security and peace abroad, but President Trudeau did not.
