Pam Bondi Tells Senators ‘Partisan Weaponization’ Of Justice Department Will End On Her Watch
Pam Bondi, the nominee for Attorney General, said on Wednesday that she would stop “partisan weaponization” in the DOJ.
Bondi said that she would ensure “one level of justice” to all at her confirmation hearing.
Bondi said to the Senate Judiciary Committee that if confirmed, his overriding goal would be to restore the Department of Justice’s core mission of keeping Americans secure and vigorously enforcing law. Bondi told the Senate Judiciary Committee that “that requires going back to the basics”–prosecuting violent crimes and gang activities, stopping child predators, drug traffickers and protecting our nation against terrorists and foreign threats and addressing an overwhelming border crisis. The Department of Justice should also focus on defending all Americans’ rights, such as free speech, the right to exercise religion and the right of self-defense.

Bondi praised President-elect Donald Trump for his “leadership” on criminal justice reform, which she said showed “what is possible when a president is not afraid to do things deemed “too difficult,” and to reach out across the aisle in order to find real solutions.”
Bondi stated, “Like President Obama, I think we are at the cusp of a ‘New Golden Age’ in which the Department of Justice will and can do better.”
During his opening remarks, Senate Judiciary Committee chair Chuck Grassley informed Bondi that she must make changes to ensure the weaponization of DOJ during the Biden administration will “never happen again.” He cited special counsel Jack Smith’s “lawfare” against Trump and DOJ’s prosecution of prolife activists as two examples.

Bondi has since shut down a number of questions from Democratic Senators who suggested that her loyalty to Trump could be an issue.
Bondi replied to Adam Schiff, a Democratic California Senator who asked if there was a factual basis for investigating former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney from Wyoming by referring to the crime rates in his own state.
She told Schiff, “Do you know why we should be concerned?” “The crime rates in California are through the roof. Your robberies were 87% more than the national average. “That’s where I want to focus.”
BONDI FIRES BACK
Pam Bondi “Sen. Hirono, I wish we had met ….”
Hirono: I’m listening now. Could you answer the question?

Bondi asked Democratic Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse if it is appropriate to “start by a name and then look for a criminal.”
Bondi stated, “I believe that the whole problem is with the weaponization we have seen in the last four-years and what has happened to Donald Trump.” “They targeted Donald Trump. In fact, they started pursuing him in 2016. His campaign was targeted. He has been the subject of countless investigations. This will not happen if I become attorney general. “I will not politicize this office.”
Bondi also criticized Democratic Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono, who was the only senator to not have met with her before the hearing.
Trump nominated Bondi as attorney general after Matt Gaetz, a former Republican Florida Rep., withdrawn from consideration in November.
