Pennsylvania Democrats Propose Erasing Sex from Birth Certificates, Call Practice ‘Antiquated’

Two Pennsylvania Democrats are pushing to remove biological sex information from birth certificates so that people can easily change their “gender identities” without “bureaucratic obstacles.”

Benjamin Sanchez and Joe Webster, state representatives from California, have introduced a bill to remove biological realities of sex on birth certificates. They say this would eliminate “another form of discrimination that people suffer when there is a mistake in that category.”

As the world changes, we must also change our outdated practices and procedures. There is precedent for changing the requirements on birth certificates. Birth certificates, for example, used to list the race of a person’s parents. This was historically used as part of systemic racism,” said the lawmakers in a House cosponsorship memo posted on January 24, 2009.

As we’ve seen, removing the race from applications for birth certificates has not had any impact on the document’s original intent, which was to prove the actual birth and the location in which the child is born. “By removing the sex category from birth certificates we are eliminating yet another form discrimination that people face when an error is made in this category”, they added.

Trump’s Executive orders may get cancelled. But there’s a great way to make them permanent so no future administration can overturn them. The Democrats claimed that their bill was based on a left-wing American Medical Association recommendation. This organization has embraced the “gender identification” concept, the false belief in which one can become or identify as a different sex from what they were born. The Democrats control only the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Governorship. Republicans hold the state Senate.

The legislators wrote:

The process of amending documents is complicated by bureaucratic roadblocks. People face discrimination when they change categories, such as their gender. This issue would be resolved by our legislation, which would remove the bureaucratic roadblock. According to the American Medical Association, removing sex labels from birth certificates would prevent many issues that individuals may face if they have a different gender on this important document.

The U.S. Standard Certificate of Live Birth, which is used to collect medical and statistical information, will continue to report sex, so its inclusion on a birth record is redundant. We encourage you to co-sponsor this bill with us to ensure that Pennsylvania bureaucracy does not hinder any Pennsylvanians from living authentically.

In 2021, the AMA drafted a resolution to remove the terms “male” or “female”, claiming that the evidence of a person’s birth is all that is needed. In the resolution, it was stated that sex should only be noted on the birth certificate for statistical purposes. Birth certificates should not contain sex because this could hinder individuals who decide to change their gender at some point.

The AMA supports sex-change drugs and mutilating surgery for youth who think they are transgender. In 2022, the organization was one of several groups of left-wing doctors in the United States who asked the Biden Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute anyone who disagreed with their treatment of gender dysphoria among children.
