Speaker Johnson to Pursue ‘One Big Bill’ on Trump Agenda

The U.S. House of Representatives Speaker said on Sunday that he will stick to a “one-big-bill” strategy in order to pass President Donald Trump’s tax cut agenda and fund border, military and other priorities despite a $340 billion budget plan released by Senate Republicans on Friday.

Speaker Mike Johnson said on Fox News Sunday it would take time to achieve Republican consensus, given the thin majority of Republicans in the House. However, he added that they will find ways to offset the costs of extending the 2017 tax cuts due to expire by the end of this year as well as other priorities like excluding tip incomes from taxation.

Shannon Bream, the host of the show, asked Johnson to explain how he would convince the President that the single-bill method is superior to the two-bill system suggested by the GOP senators.

Johnson explained: “I talk to the president and his staff about this constantly, reminding that we’ll get the job accomplished, but the strategy has to be one big bill.” Johnson said that this was because it gives us the best chance of success in delivering all of these campaign promises. We will do it. “The president knows it.”

To all of the GOP Senators and Members of Congress: This is where the rubber meets the road. They campaigned saying they stood with Trump and would help pass his agenda. The time for proving those words have meaning is now. Join the Republican Liberty Caucus in demanding Congress put their words into action and implement Trump’s agenda… or we’ll find someone else who will.

Johnson was asked to comment on Sen. Lindsey Graham’s, R-S.C. request that the House approve funding for immigration officials and law enforcement officers protecting the southern border.

“Lindsey is a good friend.” I also have a great deal of respect for him, and I can understand their actions. “They want to move the Agenda and we do too,” Johnson said. “President Trump has a mandate to implement the America First agenda. He is working at a breakneck pace…and we will do it through legislation.

“We are delivering a complex and very difficult set of services. We will, of course, secure the border. We will make sure the safety of American communities. We will restore the American economy, energy dominance and common sense. “But to do it all in one bill, that takes a little time.”

Johnson asked when the House Bill will be presented.

We were going to have a market for the budget committee next week. He said that we might push it further, because details are important. “Remember, I have the smallest margin ever, currently about two votes, so I need to ensure everyone is on board before bringing the project, the final product forward. We still have a few boxes to tick, but we’re getting close.”
