After he supported a bill that replaced the term “mother” with “inseminated persons,” Democratic Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers was accused of insulting and erasing motherhood.

The Joint Committee on Finance of the Wisconsin Senate introduced the 1,917-page budget bill on Tuesday. It contained Evers’s recommendations for the fiscal years 2025-2027. The bill’s amendments that dealt with state laws governing paternity disputes, artificial insemination and other issues recommended replacing the term “mother” with the “inseminated persons” or “persons inseminated”; “biological father” was replaced by “natural parent”; “husband” was changed to “spouse”; and “male” became “person”.

Dan O’Donnell, a WISN-TV journalist, wrote on X: “This is beyond parody.”

The order criticised “ideologues” who “deny the biological realities of sex,” for “increasingly using legal and other socially-coercive measures to permit men to identify as women and gain entry to intimate single-sex areas and activities that are designed for women, such as women’s domestic violence shelters and women’s work showers.”
