Trump Backs Elon Musk’s Email, Indicates It Is a Probe to See Who Is Really Working

Elon Musk sent an email to federal employees on Friday asking them to respond with five bullets of their accomplishments last week. The email was sent via the United States Office of Personnel Management.
“I thought it great because there are people who don’t even show up for work and no one knows if they actually work for the government. By asking, “Tell us what happened this week?” he is basically saying, “Are you working?” And if you do not answer, you are either semi-fired or fired, because many people don’t respond because they don’t exist,” Trump stated during a recent press conference.
He continued: “I think that it was a genius idea to send it.” We are trying to determine if people work, so we sent a letter asking people to tell us about their week. If they don’t reply, it is possible that the person doesn’t exist or isn’t working.
As the deadline for Monday at 11:59 pm. ET approached, confusion remained about whether or not to reply to the email. ET approached.

Musk announced the emails for the first time on Friday, at 2:46 pm. ET, Musk said that “failure of response will be taken as resignation.”
He posted on X.
In accordance with the instructions of President @realDonaldTrump, federal employees will receive an email asking them to explain what they accomplished last week. In the event that you do not respond, your resignation will be considered.
According to a federal employee, the emails caused an immediate panic. Federal employees freaking out.”
This email caused confusion as well after supervisors in some agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Health and Human Services told their employees to not respond to it immediately.
Even more confusion arose after top officials in some agencies instructed employees to not respond.
In a recent statement, State Department acting Undersecretary of Management Tibor Nagy informed employees that they were not required to respond.
Darin Selnick, the Under Secretary of Defense (Personnel and Readiness) told employees to do the same.
Some agencies, such as Veterans Affairs Department, told their employees on Monday morning that the email was valid.
When asked about “a disconnect between communications”, Trump replied, “No, No, No. This was done in an amicable way, and only for things like Marco at State Department where they work on very confidential matters, or FBI where they are working on things that are confidential. They don’t intend that to be combative with Elon. They are just saying that there are certain people you wouldn’t really want them to tell you what their work was last week. “But other than that I thought everyone thought it was an ingenious concept.”
He said again, “We need to know where these people are and who they are. We said that if you didn’t reply, we assumed you weren’t around, and we wouldn’t pay you anymore. You know, we are doing a good job. We just had the Harvard poll say that what we are doing is hugely popular.”
