FCC Commissioner Trolls Time-Wasting Dem By Showing Off His Own Linguistic Skills

Nathan Simington, Republican commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission(FCC), repeated his remarks Thursday in Romanian in an insult to Democratic FCC commissioner Anna Gomez at the monthly open meeting for the commissions.
Joe Verde told the Daily Caller News Foundation that Gomez repeats her remarks in Spanish at meetings. This is seen by some as a waste of time and effort. On the agenda of the meeting was regaining the authority to auction parts of the electromagnetic range.
This proceeding represents the kind of thinking that has been missing from the commission in recent years: A practical, results-oriented action… repurposing existing commercial brands to increase spectral efficiency is one key way to address it,” Simington said. Simington stated that this proceeding is a good example of the type of thinking the commission has been lacking in recent years: a practical, results-oriented approach… repurposing commercial brands to improve spectral efficiency would be one way to tackle it. There are other options, and I’m counting on Congress and NTIA (National Telecommunications and Information Administration) to help me get there. In the meantime, however, it is fair to say, yes, I think we are back. I support this item. “And now, I will make my remarks in Romanian.”
Simington then repeated his remarks in Romanian. It took him a minute, six seconds, to make the same remarks in English that only took 30 seconds. An American Sign Language Interpreter was forced to stand at the side.

Brendan Carr, FCC chairman, said to Gomez: “I didn’t know that it was over yet but thank you for your time.”
Gomez replied to the laughter of other commissioners by saying, “That was super cool,” before adding “And your mother too, as we would say in Spanish.”
Gomez didn’t repeat her remarks in Spanish before Simington during the Thursday meeting, but she delivered remarks in Spanish after she spoke in English later in the meeting.
Simington’s official biography states that he was appointed by President Donald Trump to the FCC in 2020 after serving at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. Verde said that he was known for avoiding diversity events hosted by other members of his commission.
Gomez joined the commission in September 2023 after being confirmed by Senate. According to her biography, she previously worked at the FCC for 12 years in different capacities. She was also deputy director of NTIA under the Obama administration.
Verde stated that Simington’s actions revealed how absurd it was for Gomez to continue this position of reciting the speech she had already given.
