EPA Ends Hundreds Of Grants Totaling $1.7 Billion In Latest DOGE Cuts

“It is our commitment at EPA to be exceptional stewards of tax dollars.”
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has implemented significant reductions to its grant programs, slashing hundreds of grants that total approximately $1.7 billion. This move is part of an effort to align the agency’s spending with the fiscal priorities set by President Donald Trump.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin disclosed the details of these substantial cuts during the announcement of the fourth round of reductions. This initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project. Since President Trump’s inauguration in January, the EPA has reduced its spending by around $2 billion.
“Working hand-in-hand with DOGE to rein in wasteful federal spending, EPA has saved more than $2 billion in taxpayer money,” Zeldin stated. “It is our commitment at EPA to be exceptional stewards of tax dollars.”

The EPA is currently endeavoring to recover $20 billion in funds that were allocated by the Biden administration under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. These funds were transferred to Citibank just before the election and were designated for eight nonprofits, which were expected to distribute the funds further.
Citibank has currently frozen these funds while the Department of Justice investigates the matter. Zeldin has expressed his intention for these funds to be returned to the federal government.
Zeldin has criticized the rapid allocation of these funds, referring to them as “gold bars” that were hastily distributed by the agency. He highlighted that $20 billion was intended for a series of intermediary groups, which would then channel the funds to additional intermediaries, effectively benefiting allies of the Biden administration.
Of the $20 billion, $2 billion was directed to an organization named Power Forward Communities, which is associated with Democrat Stacey Abrams. Zeldin pointed out last month that this allocation is a clear example of wasteful and fraudulent spending that the Trump administration is striving to address.
“I made a commitment to members of Congress and to the American people to be a good steward of tax dollars and I’ve wasted no time in keeping my word. When we learned about the Biden Administration’s scheme to quickly park $20 billion outside the agency, we suspected that some organizations were created out of thin air just to take advantage of this,” Zeldin explained.
“As we continue to learn more about where some of this money went, it is even more apparent how far-reaching and widely accepted this waste and abuse has been. It’s extremely concerning that an organization that reported just $100 in revenue in 2023, was chosen to receive $2 billion. That’s 20 million times the organization’s reported revenue,” he added.
