Trump wonders about the validity of Biden documents signed with an autopen

On a recent Friday, President Trump raised concerns about the authenticity of former President Biden’s signatures on official documents, attributing them to the use of an autopen and questioning Biden’s cognitive abilities. Trump highlighted that many of Biden’s executive orders were sanctioned using an autopen, sparking debates over the awareness and intent behind these actions during his presidency.
“Crooked Joe Biden got us into a real mess with Russia and everything else he did, frankly, but he didn’t know about it, generally speaking, he signed it with an autopen,” Trump stated during a speech at the Justice Department headquarters in Washington.
Trump criticized the use of autopen, deeming it “disrespectful to the office” and questioning its validity, “because, you know, who’s getting [Mr. Biden] to sign? He had no idea what the hell he was doing,” he added.
The issue first came to light through the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, which led to Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey questioning the legitimacy of Biden’s executive orders. “I am demanding the DOJ investigate whether President Biden’s cognitive decline allowed unelected staff to push through radical policy without his knowing approval,” Bailey stated.

Autopen signatures, which are mechanically produced, have been used by various presidents for over fifty years. However, the Heritage Foundation’s investigators are now probing into who controlled the autopen during Biden’s administration and the oversight mechanisms in place at the time.
Notably, House Speaker Mike Johnson recounted an incident where Biden did not recall signing an executive order that halted exports of liquefied natural gas, raising further doubts about his involvement in decision-making.
The Oversight Project has collected numerous documents signed by Biden throughout his presidency, noting that all featured the same autopen signature, except for his handwritten signature on the announcement of his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. This particular signature lacked the “Jr.” at the end of his name, indicating a personal touch as “J.R. Biden.”
The investigation continues as the Oversight Project seeks to ascertain whether Biden was truly aware of the documents he was signing or if others were directing the use of the autopen without his consent.
