Mike Huckabee Officially Becomes Ambassador to Israel

On Monday, Ambassador Mike Huckabee had the honor of formally presenting his diplomatic credentials to Israeli President Isaac Herzog. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for Huckabee, who has been a frequent visitor and staunch ally of Israel since his first trip in the early 1970s.

A Warm Reception

President Herzog greeted Huckabee with the words, “Welcome home,” acknowledging his long-standing friendship and support for the nation. Huckabee, known for his humility and wit, shared that he had not actively sought out the ambassadorial position but was chosen by President-elect Donald Trump following a recommendation. He humorously suggested that Dr. Miriam Adelson, widow of the pro-Israel advocate Sheldon Adelson, might have recommended him as a last resort.

Huckabee’s Pro-Israel Stance

Huckabee’s appointment is particularly notable as he is the first evangelical Christian to hold this position. He has consistently expressed strong pro-Israel views, despite facing criticism from anti-Israel figures such as Sen. Chris van Hollen (D-MD). Huckabee firmly believes in Israel’s legal and Biblical rights to territories such as Judea and Samaria, commonly referred to as the West Bank.

Respecting Traditions and Global Leaders

Prior to the credentialing ceremony, Huckabee visited the Western Wall, demonstrating his respect for the religious and historical significance of the site. Additionally, he and President Herzog took a moment to honor the memory of Pope Francis, who had passed away just one day after Easter.
