Trump to Sign Executive Order Reducing Cost of Prescription, Pharmaceutical Drug Prices

President Trump Announces Major Reduction in Drug Prices
President Donald Trump has announced an upcoming executive order that will significantly lower the cost of prescription and pharmaceutical drugs in the United States by 30 to 80 percent. This groundbreaking move is set to be formalized in a signing ceremony at the White House.
Addressing Price Discrepancies
In a statement on Truth Social, President Trump highlighted the longstanding issue of inflated drug prices in the U.S. compared to other countries. He noted, “For many years the World has wondered why prescription and pharmaceutical drugs are so much more expensive in the U.S. than in any other nation,” emphasizing the drastic price differences for drugs produced in the same facilities by the same companies.
Criticism of Pharmaceutical Companies and Democrats
President Trump did not hold back in his criticism of both the pharmaceutical industry and the Democratic Party. He accused drug companies of attributing high costs to research and development, unfairly burdening Americans with these expenses. Trump stated, “The Pharmaceutical/Drug Companies would say, for years, that it was Research and Development Costs, and that all of these costs were, and would be, for no reason whatsoever, borne by the ‘suckers’ of America, ALONE.” He also pointed out the influence of campaign contributions but assured that such tactics have no sway over him or the Republican Party.
Historic Executive Order
The President expressed his enthusiasm about the executive order, describing it as “one of the most consequential Executive Orders in our Country’s history.” He assured that the implementation of these reductions would be almost immediate, significantly impacting the cost of essential medications in the U.S.

Moreover, Trump introduced a “Most Favored Nation” policy, ensuring that the U.S. will not pay more for drugs than the lowest price paid by any other nation. This policy aims to bring fairness and substantial savings to American healthcare costs.
Supporting American Patients
A fact sheet released by the White House earlier in April detailed the directives of the executive order, which includes measures to drastically cut drug prices for American patients. This includes offering massive discounts to low-income patients for life-saving medications like insulin and supporting state-led drug importation programs to further reduce costs.
With these actions, President Trump reaffirms his commitment to rectifying the long-standing issue of disproportionate drug pricing, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on American citizens and introduce a fairer pricing structure in the pharmaceutical industry.
