California to sue Trump over National Guard deployment in LA

California to Sue Trump Administration Over National Guard Deployment
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans to initiate a legal challenge against President Trump’s order to deploy the National Guard in Los Angeles. This lawsuit, set to be filed on Monday, contests the federalization of the state’s National Guard without California’s approval. It is a scenario Newsom stated has hardly any historical precedent in the United States.
In an interview on MSNBC, Newsom criticized President Trump’s actions stating, “Donald Trump has created the conditions you see on your TV tonight. He’s exacerbated the conditions. He’s, you know, lit the proverbial match. He’s putting fuel on this fire, ever since he announced he was taking over the National Guard — an illegal act, an immoral act, an unconstitutional act”. He also remarked, “We’re going to test that theory with a lawsuit tomorrow,” hinting at the urgent legal response his administration intends to pursue.
Lack of Coordination with State Authorities
Further detailing the grounds for the lawsuit, Newsom pointed out the legal necessity for coordination with state authorities as laid out in Trump’s executive order. “It specifically notes — and under what the [Department of Defense] did — is they had to coordinate with the governor of the state. They never coordinated with the governor of the state,” Newsom explained, showcasing a breach in the required process.
The Governor underscored his willingness to deploy the National Guard for emergencies, mentioning past instances, but emphasized the importance of following established protocols, which he accuses President Trump of blatantly disregarding.
Newsom’s Personal Commentary and Confrontation with Border Czar

In response to a statement from Tom Homan, border czar, about possibly arresting leaders like Newsom or Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Newsom retorted, “Come after me, arrest me. Let’s just get it over with, tough guy, you know? I don’t give a damn. But I care about my community. I care about this community,”\ indicating his readiness to face any political fallout head-on. He expressed frustration with what he termed as immature tactics from Trump’s administration.
White House Responds to Allegations
Abigail Jackson, a White House spokeswoman, defended President Trump’s intervention in Los Angeles. In a statement provided to NewsNation, she stated, “President Trump rightfully stepped in to restore law and order because of Gavin Newsom’s feckless leadership and his refusal to stop the violent attacks on American law enforcement. She further accused Newsom of denying the apparent troubles in Los Angeles prior to Trump’s involvement. “It’s a bald-faced lie for Newsom to claim there was no problem in Los Angeles before President Trump got involved,” Jackson added.
The clash between state and federal authorities highlights a deepening political divide as California gears up to challenge the Trump administration’s recent actions in court, signifying far-reaching implications for federal-state relations and the conduct of governance in crisis situations.
